Bobcats Split Against Troy On Saturday

TROY, Ala. – Junior Kortney Koroll etched her name into the single-season record books on Saturday, hitting her team-leading eighth home run in an 8-1 victory against the Troy Trojans. The Bobcats ultimately fell in game two by a score of 1-0, falling to 23-28 on the season and 6-11 in Sun Belt Conference play.
 
Texas State rattled off eight runs on 10 hits in game one, highlighted with a pair of home runs by Koroll and Courtney Harris.
 
The Bobcats were held scoreless through two while allowed just one hit by the Trojan pitching staff. It was in the third inning that the Bobcats put a mark on the scoreboard, taking advantage of a pair of walks and the second Texas State hit of the game.
 
Troy tied it up in the bottom half of the third, hitting a solo home run right over the left field foul pole.
 
In the fourth, fifth, and, sixth innings, Texas State recorded a combined eight hits. In the top of the fourth inning, Harris gave Texas State a 5-1 lead with her two-run shot over the left centerfield fence.
 
The second Texas State home run of the day came in the sixth by Koroll, with Kelli Baker and Timishia North standing on second and third. Baker made her way to the bases on a Troy error while North beat out the throw on a bunt single to third base.
 
The Trojans only threat to score more in the first game was in the bottom of the sixth inning when two of the three outs were caught on the warning track.
 
Rayn House picked up her conference-high 20th victory as she struck out six while allowing just four hits.
 
Coralee Ramirez, Katie Doerre, and North each contributed two hits apiece in the first game. Koroll led the squad with three RBI.
 
The lone score in game two was a solo shot by Troy's Michelle Phelps in the bottom of the fourth inning.
 
Texas State's Ashley Wright was credited with the loss in game two, but the sophomore right hander allowed just two hits. After walking three in the first inning, Wright kept the Trojans off the bases on free passes while striking out a season-high eight batters.
 
Ramirez put together another two-hit game in the second game, going 2-for-3 from the plate. Delia Saucedo also added two hits to the Bobcat total. Ramirez is now riding on an eight-game hitting streak.
