Box Score SAN MARCOS – Texas State swept the series against Georgia State with a 4-1 victory Sunday. In the win,
Hunter Lemke earned his eighth save of the season and 16
th of his career to break the Texas State record for most career saves formally held by Jeff McVaney with 15 from 2009-12. In addition, the three consecutive victories on the weekend puts Head Coach
Ty Harrington just one win away from his 500
th career victory.

Lucas Humpal stymied the Georgia State lineup all day, striking out six batters and only giving up two hits and a run. He was part of an outstanding weekend performance from the pitching staff. Facing the second-leading team in the Sun Belt in batting average, runs, hits, doubles, home runs and slugging percentage, the Bobcats finished the weekend with an impressive 1.33 ERA.
The Bobcat pitching staff kept Chase Raffield and Nic Wilson in check. The Georgia State duo are the top two home run hitters in the conference as well as two of the top four RBI hitters and second and third in on-base percentage in the conference. Wilson was second in the SBC in runs, and he only scored once on the weekend. He hit .222 with just two hits while Raffield went 3-for-11.
Lemke, the only Bobcat pitcher to face the Panthers twice this weekend, only gave up one hit in two innings en route to the career saves record.
Sunday, six Bobcats tallied a hit with
Granger Studdard knocking two RBI and
Tyler Pearson hitting one. Texas State jumped on GSU with two runs in the first and one in the third and never gave up the lead, adding a seventh-inning score.
After forcing a 1-2-3 top of the first, the Bobcats saw
Matt Smith knock a leadoff single. He went to second on a wild pitch.
Garrett Mattlage plated him with a hit to center field and advanced to second on an outfield error. After that, Studdard brought in Mattlage with another single to give the Bobcats a 2-0 lead after one inning.
In the third, Texas State added another run.
Austin O'Neal reached on another hit by pitch and went all the way to third on a two-base error from Georgia State second baseman Chad Prain. In an effort to turn a double play, he overthrew the shortstop at second to allow Studdard to get to second base and push O'Neal to third.
Tyler Pearson brought O'Neal in on a groundout to extend the lead to 3-0.
Georgia State's Chase Raffield knocked his 10
th home run of the season in the sixth inning, sending one out to right field to put the Panthers on the board, 3-1. The Bobcats answered in the seventh, starting with a
Cory Geisler single. After that, he stole second and went to third on a wild pitch. Studdard brought him in on a sacrifice fly to give the Bobcats a 4-1 lead in the seventh and that would be enough for the win.
The Bobcats next play a home-and-home series with Baylor. The Bears and Bobcats will square off in Waco at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday and then play each other at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday at Bobcat Ballpark, a game which will be televised locally on KBVO and nationally on ESPN3.
