Troy, Ala. –
The Texas State women's basketball team won a track meet in the final regular season game of the 2013-14 campaign, beating Troy 95-92, Saturday afternoon at the Trojan Arena in Troy, Ala. Sophomore guard Ayriel Anderson had a career-high 31 points to lead all scorers.

The Bobcat offense exploded in the second half, going off for 57 points in the period, its most in any period this season. The team's 95 points are the most since scoring 100 in the regular season finale last year against San Jose State.

Defensively, the Bobcats played good defense from the field against the fifth leading scorer in the country Joanna Harden as she was limited to 7-of-26 from the field after being just 8-of-32 in the first meeting against Texas State.

For Anderson, she was not only scoring in volumes but also very efficient while doing so. She was 9-of-13 from the field and 4-of-6 from three-point range. She helped ice the game down the stretch, going 9-of-10 from the free throw line.

Anderson got the Bobcats out to a five-point lead midway through the first half at 32-27. She hit three straight three-pointers en route to 13 first half points. Meghan Braeuer hit a jumper coming out of an out of bounds play to make it the five-point lead.

Texas State came out on a charge coming out of halftime on a 7-0 run. Ashley Ezeh had all seven points in the run, getting to the free throw line and getting within 47-43. Unfortunately the Trojans were able to respond and push their lead back to 62-52 with 12:15 to go.

The Bobcats were able to hang tough in the second half and prevent Troy from running away with the game as they went on a 17-7 run to tie the game back at 69-69 with 7:35 to go.

From that point on it turned into a see-saw battle as the game saw seven ties and four lead changes in total. Neither team was able to gain more than a four-point advantage the rest of the way, that one was held by Troy at 82-78 with 3:19 to go.

Kaitlin Walla asserted her dominance down the stretch driving to the hole down the left side of the lane to tie the game at 82-82. Walla finished Saturday with 11 points and three rebounds.

Walla's layup was part of a 12-4 run that gave the Bobcats their largest lead of the second half at 90-86 with 1:00 to go following free throws by Ayriel Anderson. The Texas State defense tightened up down the stretch, holding Troy to just eight points in the final 3:19 of the game.

Texas State will begin the Sun Belt Tournament on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., in the No. 4-5 matchup against Georgia State. The game can be heard on 89.9 FM KTSW in San Marcos as well as www.txstatebobcats.com.
