San Antonio, Texas – The Texas State women's tennis team will be looking for its second straight win and third win in four matches when the Bobcats travel to San Antonio to play I-35 rival UTSA at the UTSA Tennis Center on Monday, Mar. 31. The match will begin with three doubles matches at 1:00 p.m.
Texas State enters Monday's match with an 8-6 record after the Bobcats edged Arkansas State by a score of 4-3 last Tuesday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex. The win improves Texas State's record to 8-6 overall and gives the Bobcats a 3-1 mark against Sun Belt Conference teams. Texas State also is 6-0 in home matches this season.
UTSA will be playing for the first time since March 16 and enters the match with an 8-7 overall record after winning their third straight match with a 4-1 victory against UT Pan American. The Roadrunners are began their winning streak with a 4-3 win against Liberty on March 11 and a 4-0 win versus Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on March 12.
Looking At Texas State
Senior
Jessica Kahts is Texas State's top singles player with a 10-4 record in No. 1 matches after winning three of her last four matches.
Freshman
Eva Dench has won nine singles matches overall after winning her last four matches in straight sets. She won her first No. 4 match of the season last week with a 6-1, 6-4 victory against Arkansas State after winning a No. 5 match at South Alabama on Mar. 13. Dench began the season compiling a 7-2 record in No. 6 matches.
Another freshman
Ana Laura Gutierrez also has won eight singles matches this season and owns a 4-4 record in No. 3 matches this season. Gutierrez has combined with Kahts for an 8-4 record as the No. 1 doubles team for the Bobcats.
Sophomore
Katy Collins improved to 3-0 in conference matches after sealing the victory over Arkansas State with a straight set victory in her No. 6 match. She enters the UTSA match looking to win her second straight match.
Shannon Beckett and
Monica Pieratt are 6-5 in No. 2 doubles matches this spring. Beckett also has won seven singles matches with a 7-7 singles record.
Scouting The Roadrunners
Jacobea Junger is UTSA's top singles player and enters Monday's match with a 9-5 record this season. Freshman Miriam Rosell Canudas leads the Roadrunners with 12-3 record in No. 2 matches, while Isabelle Jonsson has an 8-6 mark in No. 3 matches. Junger and Canudas also have a 10-1 mark as UTSA's top doubles team this season. Jonsson has teamed with Lina Hallgren for a 7-4 mark as the No. 3 doubles tandem for the Roadrunners.
What's Next
Following Monday's match, the Bobcats will travel to Dallas Metroplex area for non-conference matches at SMU in Dallas and against Middle Tennessee State in Arlington on April 5 before playing a Sun Belt Conference match at UT Arlington on April 6.
