The Series
This will be the first meeting between Texas State and Wagner. Wagner is coming off a three-game losing skid to start the season while the Bobcats have won four in a row.

On the Seahawks
Wagner struggled in its only series of the season, a three-game road series against Elon. The Seahawks gave up 32 runs over three game while only scoring six. The team's three weekend starters combine for a 9.57 ERA with two of them sitting at 9.82.

To add to struggling pitching, Wagner is also averaging five errors per game for a paltry .915 fielding percentage. The worst culprits have been left fielder/third baseman Ben Ruta with three and third baseman/catcher Nick Dini and first baseman Tommy Mazurkiewicz with two each.

The team's best hitter is Nick Mascelli, who boasts a .400 batting average in 10 at bats. The nearest batting average among the main contributors belongs to Dini at just .250. Ruta, Trey Nicosia and Jason Gordon have a combined average of .455 but only 11 at-bats between among the trio.

Brad Currao put on the team's best pitching performance, not giving up a hit, striking out three and only walking one in three innings. In a combined five innings, Steven Bloodworth, Mike Adams and Max Schmardel have only given up four hits, one unearned run with four strikeouts and one walk.

On the Bobcats
At 6-2, the Bobcats are trying to put together the best start since 2011 and can do it with a series sweep of the Seahawks.

So far, Texas State has been led by senior catcher Tyler Pearson. He's batting .379 with 11 hits, four RBI, two homers and five runs scored. He's slugging .621 with a .438 on-base percentage. The only other Bobcats above .300 are Matt Smith (.429) and Cory Geisler (.375) who shared 13 at-bats between them.

The Bobcats have benefitted from stellar starting pitching in the early going of 2014. Austen Williams leads the group at 2-0 with 15 strikeouts and just three hits for an opponents' batting average of just .067 in 13.2 innings. But Lucas Humpal earned the Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week award for his 13 strikeouts in last Friday's opener against UC Riverside. He leads the team in strikeouts with 16.

Texas State will have to improve its defense though. The team's fielding percentage is at .955 with 15 errors on the year. Head Coach Ty Harrington has never coached a team that finished with less than .959 and that was last season.

A Look Ahead
After Wagner, the Bobcats will host Valparaiso Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. and then take to the road for the team's first road series of the year, a three-game series at Washington State.
