Women’s Tennis Team Defeats Incarnate Word 7-0

San Marcos, Texas – The Texas State women's tennis team rolled to its fourth straight victory when the Bobcats defeated Incarnate Word, 7-0, at the Bobcat Tennis Complex on Saturday.
 
Texas State (4-2) began the day capturing the doubles team point when the Bobcats won all three matches. In the No. 3 match, Katy Collins and Eva Dench won the first five games in the set and went on to win 8-2 over Kelsey Reblin and Taryn Strahl.
 
Then, Shannon Beckett and Monica Pieratt won five of the last six games to capture an 8-4 victory over Jennifer Betancourt and Sarah Savedra in the No. 2 match.
 
In the No. 1 match, Jessica Kahts and Ana Laura Gutierrez jumped out to an early 5-1 lead before Andi Botha and Ivana Katavic fought back to within one game at 7-6. Nevertheless, Kahts held serve in the final game of the match to give the Bobcats an 8-6 victory.
 
The Bobcats also dominated singles play as Texas State won all six matches. First, Kahts won the No. 1 match in straight sets with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Katavic to improve her record this season to 5-1.
 
Then, Anna Laura Gutierrez, Monica Pieratt and Eva Dench won their matches in straight sets to clinch the victory for Texas State.
 
Playing in the No. 3 singles position for the first time this season, Gutierrez posted a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Betancourt for her fourth straight victory overall.
 
Then, Pieratt won her second straight match with a 6-0, 6-2 decision over Savedra in the No. 2 match. Dench also captured nine straight points to win the No. 6 match 6-3, 6-0 over Reblin to improve to 4-1 this season.
 
The final two matches were decided by tiebreakers. Katy Collins won the No. 5 match by capturing the super tiebreaker in the third set against Strahl by a score of 10-8 after splitting the first two sets 6-2, 2-6.
 
In the final match of the day, Beckett won the No. 4 match against Botha in straight sets after winning a tiebreaker in the second set. She captured the first set by a score of 6-2 before winning the tiebreaker 7-5 to secure the second set by a score of 7-6.  
 
The victory improves Texas State's overall record to 4-2 and gives the Bobcats a 4-0 record in home matches this season. The Bobcats will look for their fifth straight victory on Sunday when they host former conference rival Stephen F. Austin at the Bobcat Tennis Complex on Sunday at noon.
