Softball Hosts I-35 Rival UTSA On Wednesday

SAN MARCOS, Texas –
With a 3-2 record at the Campbell/Cartier Classic and a signature victory over No. 23 California this past weekend, the Texas State softball team returns to San Marcos for a single game contest against I-35 rival UTSA on Wednesday evening. Texas State enters the contest with a 7-3 overall record.
 
A Look At UTSA
UTSA enters Wednesday's contest with a 4-5 overall record. After starting the season 4-0, the Roadrunners are currently on a five-game skid.
 
A key victory for the Roadrunners this season was when they traveled north to Austin to take on then No.15 Texas. UTSA beat the Longhorns by a score of 4-2, handing Texas its third loss of the season.
 
UTSA has a 3-5 road record, picking up three victories over Southland Conference opponent Lamar to start the 2014 regular season.
 
Megan Low leads the team offensively as she has hit a team-high four home runs and 12 RBI's. Low has started in all nine games for the Roadrunners. UTSA is batting .233 as a team while allowing its opponents a .273 team batting average.
 
About Texas State
With a 7-3 overall record, Texas State is off to its best start through 10 games since the 2004 season when it began regular season play with an 8-2 record.
 
On the mound, the Bobcats are led by senior Rayn House who was most recently named the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week. House finished the Campbell/Cartier Classic with a 2-1 record, picking up a key victory against No. 23 California after putting in all seven innings on the mound. She owns a 2.10 ERA and has struck out a team-high 38 batters. The Paris, Texas native has a 5-1 overall record so far this season.
 
Sophomore Kendall Wiley continues to stay solid at the plate, averaging .433 through the first 10 games. She, along with junior transfer Kortney Koroll, leads the team in home runs with two and RBI's with 10.
 
As a team, Texas State is outhitting its opponents 82 to 65 along with owning a team batting average of .296 compared to a mark of .247 by the opposition.
 
Head Coach Ricci Woodard has a 27-17 record against the Roadrunners in 14 seasons at the helm of the Bobcat squad. Texas State has dropped the last four contests to UTSA, all during the 2013 regular season. The last victory against UTSA was May 11, 2012 when the Bobcats won by a score of 2-1.
