SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State Track and Field welcomes 30 newcomers to the squad for competition in 2015. The Bobcats have added athletes in every event: sprints, hurdles, jumps, middle distance, distance, throws and the multis.

Among the newcomers are some of the top high school competitors in the state of Texas as well as a couple of standout transfers.
Â
In the jumps group, the Bobcats added
Chelsie Decoud,
Alvin Chikaeze and
Courtney Johnson among others. Decoud comes in as the top recruit after achieving the top ranking among Texas high school high jumpers, and being ranked third nationally. She was a regional champion her senior year and finished third at the Texas 5A State Championships. Her best mark in the high jump was 6-feet.

Chikaeze, meanwhile, also won a regional championship like Decoud. His was in the triple jump to qualify for state his senior season and finished fourth at the Texas 5A State Championships. He comes to Texas State as the third ranked triple jumper in Texas and 11
th nationally while holding down the 11
th ranking in Texas in long jump and 22
nd nationally. Chikaeze competed at the USA Track and Field Junior Nationals and boasts career highs of 23-feet-11-inches in long jump and 49-feet-6-inches in triple jump.

Johnson was a regional champion like Decoud and Chikaeze and qualified for state in her sophomore, junior and senior seasons. She was the Texas 4A State Champion in high jump and cleared a career-high 5-feet-8-inches. She went on to compete in the USA Track and Field Junior Nationals and finished her high school career as the ninth-ranked high jumper in Texas.

Splitting time between jumps and sprints will be
Adrian Hobley, Jr.,
Lauren Nwegbo and
Cody Schulz. At Summer Creek High School in Humble, Texas, Hobley led the 4x100-meter relay team to the 2013 state championship and a national ranking of ninth. His 4x200-meter relay team also won a state championship. His career bests include 10.5 in the 100-meter dash and 23 feet in the long jump.

Both Nwegbo and Schulz are transfers for Texas State with Nwegbo coming from Sam Houston State and Schulz from Angelo State. Nwegbo ran the 60-meter dash, the 4x100-meter relay and jumped in the triple jump and long jump her freshman season at SHSU. Her career bests are 7.61 in the 60m, 5.85 meters in the long jump and 12.19 meters in the triple jump. She won the triple jump at Texas A&M's 12-Team Invitational last season with the best jump of her career. Nwegbo was also recognized on the All-Academic Team at Sam Houston State.

Meanwhile, Schulz was recognized on the USTFCCCA All-Region Team in the long jump at Angelo State. His best long jump was 23-feet-11.75-inches. He was also an integral part of Angelo State's 4x100-meter relay squad that took second at the Lone Star Conference Championships with a time of 41.20. As a 100m sprinter, Schulz turned in the fastest time on the team when he ran a 10.39. Like Nwegbo, he was also recognized academically when he was named to the Lone Star Conference's Commissioner's Honor Roll and to the USTFCCA All-Academic list.

In addition,
Esther Oyetunde will compete in both middle distance and jumps for Texas State. In high school, she ran the 800-meters in 2:13, the 400m in 57.17 and triple jumped a distance of 39-feet-1.75-inches.

Mark Barre,
De'Marcus Porter and
Macahla Wesley are three more of the newest Texas State sprinters. Barre anchored a 4x100-meter relay team that finished second in the state in 2013, but had the fastest time in Texas for most of the year. His team finished second in the 4x200-meter relay in 2014, and he led Thurgood Marshall High School to a second place finish at state. He came to Texas State as the ninth-ranked 60-meter dash runner as well as the indoor 200-meter dash. He finished second in the 100 meters and 200 meters at district and put up career bests of 10.80 in the 100m, 21.64 in the outdoor 200m, 7.04 in the 60m and 22.23 in the indoor 200m.

Porter's career bests are 10.6 in the 100-meter dash and 21.4 in the 200m. He ranked 20
th in the 200 meters and 24
th in the 100 meters in Texas, and went on to finish second in the 100-meter dash at the USA Track and Field Junior Nationals.

Wesley is one of the standout transfers for the Bobcats, coming to Texas State as a former Texas Longhorn. She put up career bests of 7.60 in the 60-meter dash and 24.81 in the 200 meters at Texas. Wesley also competed on the 4x400-meter relay team. In high school, Wesley ran an 11.5 in the 100-meter dash and 24.1 in the 200-meter dash.

Both newcomers in the hurdles group stand out.
Sydni Willis, from Grand Prairie, broke the Arlington Lamar High School school record in the 300-meter hurdles and put up the 16
th fastest time in the country in the 400-meter hurdles, a time faster than last year's Sun Belt Conference Champion. She qualified for the Texas 5A State Championships in the 300-meter hurdles and ran a 55.20 relay split at the USA Track and Field Junior Nationals. Her career bests are 43.44 in the 300-meter hurdles and 1:00.38 in the 400m hurdles.

Austin Carter finished second at the California State Championship and qualified for both the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles. He came to Texas State after running the second fastest time in California in the 300-meter hurdles, ranking him 20
th nationally. His career bests include 37.09 in the 300-meter hurdles and 14.15 in the 110-meter hurdles.

In the middle-distance group, the Bobcats will welcome another transfer,
De'Quad Binder from Sam Houston State. Binder was a two-time Southland Conference Champion in the 800-meter dash with a time of 1:50.93 in 2014, three seconds better than his 1:53.39 in 2014. He was won the 2014 Southland Conference Indoor title in the 800 meters with a time of 1:52.47. In 2014, Binder punched his ticket to the NCAA West Outdoor Preliminaries and finished his sophomore season with 12 top-three finishes and had 11 top-three finishes his freshman season. Binder's career bests are 1:49.80 in the 800m, 48.93 in the 400m, 4:07.81 in the 1,500m and 4:37.62 in the indoor mile.

Mason Davis will add to an already strong throws group. Davis won a regional championship in shot put after taking home district and area championships in both shot put and discus. He finished third in shot put at the Texas State Championships and recorded career bests of 54 feet in shot put and 154 feet in discus.

The distance group adds standouts
Jose Angel Gonzalez and
Emily Potts. The duo led the cross country teams throughout most of the fall season to start their freshman years. Gonzalez was an All-District First Teamer in high school and holds his school record in the two-mile run while Potts competed in the regionals and state in high school after finishing second in her district.
