SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State Cross Country teams travel to Fayetteville, Ark., this weekend for the 26
th Annual Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival, a race hosted by the University of Arkansas.
The Chile Pepper Festival is one of the premier running events in America with over 80 college teams regularly competing in addition to 120 high school teams and 750 individuals.
Texas State Cross Country is moving to the normal distance courses after running short course to start the season. For Saturday's race, the men will be running an 8K at 9:45 a.m. while the women will run a 5K at 10:20 a.m.
The Bobcat men are ranked 14
th in the region and will face plenty of tough competition from across the nation at the Chile Pepper Festival.
Arkansas' off road course includes a combination of grass, cinder and uneven terrain for teams to traverse.
In all three women's races this season, freshman
Emily Potts has led the Bobcats while freshman
Jose Angel Gonzalez has taken the lead for the men, leading the Bobcats in two of the three races.
After the Chile Pepper Festival, Texas State will head down to San Antonio on October 11 for the team's final tune-up before the Sun Belt Championship on Sunday, Nov. 2 in Mobile, Ala.
