Bobcats Fall 3-0 In Final Non-Conference Affair

Box Score
AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas State soccer team fell on Friday evening in its final non-conference affair to the Texas Longhorns by a score of 3-0.

The Bobcats got off to a slow start in the first half as it took almost 15 minutes for the team to put together its first scoring opportunity. An off-sides call against Sydney Curry shot the Bobcats hopes of getting on the board first.

Texas, however, scored with just under six minutes remaining in the first half to get on the board first. The Longhorns' Lindsey Meyer used a header from just outside the goal box to connect with the back of the net after a Texas corner kick.

The score remained the same leading into the half as Texas outshot Texas State 8-2. Despite earning the first corner kick of the contest, the Bobcats recorded three corner kicks to Texas' five.

Moments into the start of the second half, Texas connected again as Kelsey Shimmick launched a shot from outside the 18-yard box to the back right corner of the net. That was her third goal of the season.

Texas State's Sydney Curry shot the Bobcats first shot on goal with 22 minutes remaining in the game, but Longhorn goalkeeper Abby Smith denied the Bobcats. The combination of Clarissa Leon and Lauren Prater set up another opportunity for Texas State with about 12 minutes left in the game, but Prater's shot on goal was once again denied by Smith.

The final goal of the game for Texas came with 9:17 remaining with a shot by Chantale Campbell inside the goal box. Campbell played part in all three of the Texas goals as she recorded assists in the previous two goals.

The Bobcats finished the contest with two shots on goal and four total shots in the game. Goalkeeper Natalie Gardini recorded seven saves in the game and Sydney Curry led the team with two shots.
