KANSAS CITY, Mo. –
Victoria Meza has been named Intercollegiate Women's Soccer Organization for Coaches (IWSOC) National Player of the Week, becoming the first national player of the week recipient in program history. Goalkeeper
Caitlyn Draper earned National Save of the Week, the organization announced on Thursday.
Meza added the national honor to her second Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week award this season, the conference announced on Tuesday. The senior standout recorded her fourth brace this season in the 4-2 win over Gonzaga on Thursday night at the Bobcat Soccer Complex, adding two assists to contribute to all four Bobcat goals. Meza notched a career-high six points in the contest, good for the fifth-most all-time in the program record book.
The San Salvador, El Salvador native scored her second final-minute goal of the season on Sunday at Washington State, heading in a cross from
Lilah Dupree in the final minute of regulation to equalize. The goal provided a critical conference point for Texas State following its first-ever match in Pullman, keeping the Bobcats in the conference tournament race.
Meza's third goal of the week launches her into a tie for the conference lead in total goals (11), the most by a Bobcat since Kaylie Davis in 2018. Meza leads the Pac-12 in multiple different categories, including goals per game (0.85, 12th nationally), points per game (2.15, 9th nationally) and shots per game (3.23).
Draper earned national recognition for a full-extension, top-hand save against Washington State, making an impressive stop to deny the Cougars. The goalkeeper turned in nine saves in Sunday's draw and also reached 200 career saves in the contest, becoming just the fourth goalkeeper in program history to reach the milestone.
The Bobcats will close out their home schedule on Friday, Oct. 30, hosting first-place Boise State for Senior Night at the Bobcat Soccer Complex. The matchup features the two Pac-12 leading scorers in Meza and Boise State's Campbell Wilson, who are tied for the conference lead with 11 goals each. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. CT.
