Meza Final-Minute Equalizer Secures Draw Between Bobcats and Cougars

PULLMAN, Wash. – Entering Sunday's matchup tied for fourth in the Pac-12 standings, the Bobcats (9-3-4, 2-2-2 Pac-12) and Cougars (5-5-5, 2-2-2 Pac-12) remained even in conference points after playing to a 1-1 draw at Lower Soccer Field.

Goalkeeper Caitlyn Draper entered the match at 199 career saves, and reached the 200 milestone in the 8th minute catching a chest-high Washington State shot attempt on frame. Draper becomes just the fourth Bobcat keeper in program history to reach the 200 career saves mark, as she leads the Pac-12 with 88 this season following a nine-save afternoon.

Draper and the Bobcat back line were battling as the Cougars fired a season-high 30 shots and placed 10 on frame. The Cougars would convert when a cluster of players inside the Texas State box allowed Washington State to score when the goal broke open the scoring in the 41st minute. The Cougars would take the 1-0 lead into halftime.

A penalty issued to Washington State in the 67th minute placed Nina Norshie on the spot, but the penalty kick attempt was saved by the Cougar goalkeeper to maintain their lead.

For the second time this season, Victoria Meza delivered a final-minute goal after heading in a cross from Lilah Dupree to equalize the contest just before the end of regulation. Meza's third goal of the week ties the conference lead (11), and marks the most goals scored in a single season since Kaylie Davis in 2018.

QUOTABLE
Head Coach Steve Holeman
"Road games in the Pac-12 are really tough. We secured a very important point with that last minute goal and need to take that into the final games. It was a quality service from Lilah and another fantastic finish from Vic."
