San Marcos, Texas – The Texas State volleyball team went a perfect 4-0 through the Delta Zeta Classic Tournament to claim the championship and place three Bobcats on the All-Tournament Team. In four matches, the Bobcats only dropped one set en route to the team's first 4-0 start since 2000.

Amari Deardorff was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player while
Caylin Mahoney took home the Most Valuable Setter award.
Ashlee Hilbun was also selected to the Delta Zeta Classic All-Tournament Team.

The trio helped the Bobcats build on their 2-0 performance Friday with two flawless victories Saturday against Quinnipiac, 3-0 (25-11, 25-10, 25-22) and Houston, 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-19).

Deardorff hit for 14 kills in both matches without a single error for a .500 hitting percentage on the day. She led all players in the Houston match with 12 kills and a .480 hitting percentage. She also made her way in on four block assists.

Mahoney was her usual self, notching a double-double with 30 assists and 10 digs against Houston and going for 23 assists and six kills against Quinnipiac. She tallied five kills against the Cougars.

The Bobcats dominated Quinnipiac so convincingly that Texas State was able to play 14 players, including six freshmen. Hilbun led the way with eight kills while Mahoney and freshman
Kelsey Weynand both had six apiece. Weynand did so without an error.

Ali Hubicsak led the team in digs with seven while
Shelby Vas Matt and
Sierra Smith both notched six. Weynand and Hilbun added five each. Hilbun was strong at the net too, leading the Bobcats in blocks with three.

Speaking of the six freshmen in the team's opener Saturday, Vas Matt and Weynand had two strong days, finishing with 13 and nine kills respectively and both over a .300 hitting percentage. Vas Matt hit for eight kills with no errors against Houston for a .400 hitting percentage after Weynand went errorless against Quinnipiac.

The entire offensive effort in both matches was impressive. Texas State hit for a .326 against Quinnipiac and a .309 against the Cougars while only letting each team hit for .073 and .111 respectively.
Texas State heads to Huntsville for the team's next match against Sam Houston State at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
