No. 4 Texas State Set to Face No. 5 UTSA in WAC Tournament First Round

Game Notes

San Marcos, Texas – No. 4 Texas State will play No. 5 UTSA at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8 in the first game of the 2013 Western Athletic Conference Tournament. The tournament will be held at the Lady Techster Softball Complex on the Louisiana Tech campus in Ruston, La.

Texas State So Far..

Texas State (16-36) finished the regular season with a conference record of 10-11 to earn the fourth seed in the WAC Tournament. The Bobcats earned four series victories, as it looks to win its third straight conference tournament crown. Courtney Harris led Texas State for the second straight weekend, as the sophomore picked up conference weekly honors. Senior Haley Lemons is batting .318, in addition to 31 walks to lead the Bobcats overall.

Harris Earns WAC Hitter of the Week Honors  

Harris, a native of Round Rock, Texas, led the Bobcats to a 2-1 record at Utah State. She went 5-for-8 from the plate for an on-base percentage of .727, and a slugging percentage of 1.250.  Harris went 1-for-2 at the plate in the 14-0 run rule of the Aggies. She hit a two-run homer in the first inning, with one walk, and two runs scored. In game two, Harris went 2-for-3 with one RBI, one walk, and one run scored. In the regular season finale, Harris drove in both of the Bobcats' runs on a pair of doubles in the fourth and six innings. Harris tallied at least one hit, and one RBI in all three games. She also did not record a single strikeout for the second straight series.

Deja vu

Texas State and UTSA played each other in the first round of the Southland Conference Tournament last year. The Bobcats defeated the Roadrunners 2-1, and went on to win the SLC Tournament crown.

Conference Tournament Experience

Texas State has won its conference championship for the past two seasons. The Bobcats have won three tourney championships in the last four years, and six overall (1989, 1999, 2001, 2009, 2011 and 2012).

Hitting for the Fence

The Bobcats have 16 total home runs this season, that's six more than Texas State had in all of 2012. Jordan Masek and Katie Doerre lead the pack with a four homers apiece. Courtney Harris has three, while Coralee Ramirez has two.

 

Catch Me If You Can

Texas State is 57-for-65 in stolen base attempts in 2013. Its opponents are 38-for-57. Senior outfielder Brooke Baker is tied for fifth in the career record books with 34 stolen bases. Freshman Kelli Baker is tied for ninth on the single season stolen bases chart with 19. #QuickFeet

 

Walk It Out

Haley Lemons is third all-time in the Bobcat career record books for most base on balls with 86. She is third on the single season walks chart with 31.  #GoodEye.

 

Scouting UTSA

UTSA (26-24) defeated UT Arlington 4-2 in its final regular season game to qualify for the conference tournament. The Roadrunners went 3-3 in its final six games, while they are 14-15 away from home this season. Darian Blake leads UTSA at the plate with a batting average of .364. Haylee Staton has been called upon in the circle as she boasts a 2.49 ERA and a 14-9 overall record.
