San Marcos, Texas – It was an exciting game at Bobcat Softball Stadium tonight as Texas State hosted No. 20/16 Baylor in its Strikeout Cancer game. The teams battled through 10 innings of play before the Bears scored four runs in the 10th inning to claim the win.

Baylor's Holly Holl hit a sacrifice fly to left field foul territory, as it had just enough depth to allow Kathy Shelton to tag up from third base and score the first run of the game in the top of the first inning.

The Bears (30-10) registered four consecutive hits to start the fourth inning, but on the second hit Thumann was picked off at third base to record the first out of the inning. Baylor had the bases loaded with one out, but it popped up to shortstop and struck out to end the threat.

Texas State's first hit of the game came on a single to right field by freshman Kelli Baker in the fourth inning. The Bobcats (9-29) added two more in the fifth inning, which led to the bases loaded with two outs. Unfortunately, the Baylor second baseman made a remarkable backwards catch to record the third out and prevent the Bobcats from scoring.

Coralee Ramirez found an opening in left center with two outs in the sixth inning to record an RBI single and send Haley Lemons home from second base to tie the game.

Texas State and Baylor were forced to go to extra innings, after neither team was able to score in the seventh.

Holl ended the run shortage in the top of the ninth when she hit a two-run homer over the left center wall. The pair of runs gave the Bears a two-run advantage with the Bobcats still to bat in the bottom of the inning.

Texas State tied the game at 3-All when the Baylor shortstop tried to make the play at first base, but threw the ball in the dirt which allowed a pair of Bobcat runners to score.

With the game tied again, the Bears' Jordan Strickland hit a two-run homer to left field to take the lead. Baylor added two more runs in the inning to go up 7-3.

Texas State was unable to stage another comeback as it fell to Baylor by four.

Rayn House (3-13) registered a trio of strikeouts after pitching 9.1 innings in the loss. Brooke Baker led the Bobcats at the plate with a pair of hits and one run scored.

Texas State will travel up I-35 this weekend to face conference foe UT Arlington. Friday's doubleheader is scheduled for 4 p.m., while Saturday's single game contest is slated for 1 p.m.
