FINAL RESULTS
SAN MARCOS, Texas. – Texas State put on an impressive performance in the team's third home meet of the season, the Texas State Invitational. The squad finished with 13 first place finishes and many more with top performances, not only at the meet but in the Western Athletic Conference.
Tyrone Jackson took the men's 800-meters with a first place time and personal record of 1:49.72, also placing him second in the WAC.
Danielle Candelaria did one better with a WAC-leading performance. She won the high jump with a jump of 1.74 meters, putting in her in a first place tie for the highest jump in the WAC.
Carly Szabo finished fourth in the event. Meanwhile, the Texas State throwers made a strong showing as usual.
Darian Brown finished second overall and first among collegiate athletes with a shot put of 18.20 meters, the longest distance in the WAC. He followed it up with a first place throw in the hammer throw of 55.68 meters, putting him second in the WAC in that even. The Bobcats dominated the hammer throw with Texas State men claiming second, third and fourth behind Brown, and the women took first, second, fourth and fifth.
Jalisa Hall won the event with
Talore Kelly in second and
Dasha Tsema in fourth.
Both Kelly and Tsema took events of their own. Tsema won the discus with a WAC-leading throw of 48.68 meters while Kelly took the shot put with a throw of 13.99 meters.
In the men's discus,
Kole Knutson won with a toss of 52.07 meters, placing him second in the WAC.
Jordan Huckaby took second at the Texas State Invitational with a throw for a distance of 48.77 meters.
In other field action, Texas State combined for a first, second, third, fourth finish. In the men's vault, All-American
Logan Cunningham won first with a WAC-leading jump of 5.27 meters. Not far below him was
Landon Ferguson with a third place vault of 5.07 meters, putting him fourth in the WAC.
Leslie Ables finished second at the invitational with a jump of 3.65 meters to make the second highest vault in the WAC this season. The highest belongs to her teammate,
Hannah McWilliams, who took fourth in this weekend's event.
Garrett Robinson and
William Murray each took third place in the high jump and long jump respectively while
Allie Saunders finished second in the triple jump.
The men's 4x100-meter team claimed first place with a time of 40.52, the second fastest time in the WAC. The team was made up of
Timothy Young,
Raymond Hatton, Murray and
Anthony Johnson. Johnson also finished first in the 400-meter dash, posting a time of 47.60 for second in the WAC. Murray was just behind him in second, finishing at 48.19, fourth in the WAC. Meanwhile, Young won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.27.
Rounding out the men's performance was
Joseph Rodriguez. He finished third in the 1500-meter run (3:57.07).
Michelle Jones and
Maria Lopez took the top two spots in the women's 1500-meter run with times of 4:37.27 and 4:43.83 respectively. In the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase,
Kelly Trevino finished third (11:38.15).
The women's 4x400-meter teams (
Hayley Helfenbein,
Kellie Trinkaus,
Jennie Thomas and
Chante'sean White along with
Amber Gilmore,
Kimberly Krtinich,
Briana Sharp and
Pilar Hastings-Smith) won second and third with times of 3:44.50 and 3:48.65. The top team owns the fourth best time in the WAC.
Thomas also finished second in the 400-meter hurdles (1:00.54) placing her second in the WAC. Sharp also finished second for the Bobcats. Her placing came in the 800-meter run while Krtinich took third.
