FINAL RESULTS
SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State returned home this weekend after two meets on the road, and the Bobcats performed like they were as comfortable as ever at their home facilities, winning seven events outright as well as hitting a number of personal records on senior recognition day, tuning up for the Western Athletic Conference meet May 8-11.
“Overall, it was a good meet for the team with some solid performances and personal bests,” said Head Coach
Dana Boone. “We're definitely on the right track. It's good to have a meet like this right before conference. I feel like the team is ready and moving in the right direction.”
Texas State senior
Timothy Young made his senior day one to remember as he set a personal record and moved to the top of the Western Athletic Conference in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.90. He finished second overall, but first among collegiate athletes in the event.
From one senior to another,
Sandra Venegas set a school record in the 5,000-meter run for the third time this season. This time she finished first with a time of 16:46.30 for a personal record, a Texas State record and the second best time in the WAC this season.
Texas State distance runners continued to perform well as
Michelle Jones took first in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:34.50 and
Kimberly Krtinich won second with a personal record time of 4:36.35.
Kelly Trevino also set a lifetime best in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing first with a time of 11:20.18.
In the middle distance,
Briana Sharp also set a personal record. She won the 800-meters with a personal best time of 2:09.02 to move into third in the WAC.
William Murray was another Bobcat to set a lifetime best. He won the long jump with a distance of 7.49 meters to put him second in the WAC.
Texas State also did well in the 400-meter hurdles, both on the women's side as well as the men's side.
Larron Black finished second with a time of 51.59 while
Chante'sean White and
Jennie Thomas took second and third with times of 57.76 and 1:00.73 respectively. White's 57.76 leads the conference.
Jessica Thomas finished with a first place distance, but, due to tiebreakers, came up second in the long jump with a distance of 5.93 meters.
Camille Bender and
Allie Saunders followed by placing in the triple jump. Bend took first with a measurement of 12.35 meters, a personal record, while Saunders finished third at 12.23 meters. Both of them now sit third and fourth in the WAC respectively.
Jalisa Hall finished third in the hammer throw with a throw of 55.96 meters, but competition was fierce as Texas State volunteer assistant coach
Amanda Bingson won the event with a throw of 67.58 meters.
The pole vault crew continues to perform well as Texas State swept second, third and fourth in the women's event.
Leslie Ables and
Hannah McWilliams finished second and third in that order with a height of 3.70 meters while
Anicka Newell took fourth with 3.60 meters.
To finish the day, both Texas State 4x400-meter relay teams finished second. The women put up the second best time in the WAC at 3:41.37 with
Amber Gilmore,
Kelly Trinkaus,
Chante'sean White and
Jennie Thomas running the race. The men finished at 3:10.91, just two/thousandths of a second behind the first place time 3:10.89. Black,
Tyrone Jackson, Murray and
Anthony Johnson represented Texas State in the race.
The Bobcats will next be in action at the WAC Championship meet May 8-11 in Arlington.
