Texas State Performs Well in Home Meet

, Texas – The Texas State Bobcats welcomed top tier schools to San Marcos this weekend for the Texas State Elite Meet, and they all showed why they are the best of the best. Athletes from Arkansas, UCLA, Texas, UTSA and Illinois along with Texas State set several nationally top-ranked marks at the Texas State Track and Field Complex.

Julian Wruck of UCLA set a new national top mark with a throw of 65.04 meters, putting the Australian second internationally. Arkansas pole vaulter Andrew Irwin set the nation's top height while another Razorback, Regina George, set the fastes mark in the 800-meters. In addition to those top performances, three of the top five times in the women's 400-meter hurdles with Texas State's Chante'sean White being one of them. She finished third at the Texas State Elite Meet with a time of 58.17 to set the fastest mark in the Western Athletic Conference this season and rank fifth in the nation.

White led the women's team to a second place finish at the meet, a mere one point behind UTSA (139.50-138.50) while the men's team finished third behind UCLA and Texas with 96.50 points.

Texas State teammates Tyrone Jackson and Larron Black joined White with national top 10 performances. With a time of 1:50.28 in the 800-meters, Jackson is first in the WAC and seventh in the nation while Black is also seventh in the nation with a 400-meter hurdle time of 51.76. Black's time puts him second in the WAC.

Jalisa Hall followed suit with another WAC-leading mark for Texas State. She finished first in the hammer throw with a toss of 56.55 meters to not just lead the WAC but set a new Texas State record and personal best. She also finished third in the discus throw (44.14 meters) for the fifth highest mark in the WAC.

The Bobcats also put up a number of conference leading performances. Timothy Young leads the WAC with a time of 14.02 in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing first at the meet, while the 4x400-meter relay team also tops the WAC. Reggie Reed, James Hillard, Jackson and Anthony Johnson ran a time of 3:13.23 to finish fourth at the meet but set the best mark in the conference.

Logan Cunningham tied for second at the meet, but his height of 5.25 meters (17 feet 2.75 inches) puts him atop the WAC. Two other Texas State field athletes set conference leading marks. Derrick Randle jumped 14.65 meters (48 feet 0.75 inches) in the triple jump, finishing first. Meanwhile, thrower Darian Brown threw the shot put 16.53 meters (54 feet 2.75 inches) to take the top spot in the WAC and finish fourth at the meet. He took third in the men's hammer throw while Chaz Laijas took second with a throw of 55.06 meters.

In addition to those high ranking performances, Texas State also had a number of top three finishes. Raymond Hatton was third in the 100-meter dash (10.74) while Briana Sharp took second in the 800-meter run (2:09.53) setting the second best mark in the WAC this season.

Sandra Venegas finished the 3000-meter run with a time of 9:59.50 for second place while the women's 4x400-meter relay team claimed first place at the meet. White, Amber Gilmore, Kellie Trinkaus and Kimberly Krtinich won with a time of 3:44.61.

In addition to Hall's outstanding performance in the women's hammer throw, Kelsey Titzman finished third with a throw of 50.77 meters while Talore Kelly and Dasha Tsema took fourth and fifth. Titzman won the discus (46.33 meters) while Tsema and Hall took second and third. Titzman also took the shot put with a first place throw of 15.19 meters.

Tina Valenzuela jumped a distance of 5.83 meters in the long jump for a second place finish while William Murray took third in the men's long jump with a distance of 7.06 meters.

Danielle Candelaria was third in the high jump (1.65 meters) while Bria Bryant finished third in the triple jump (11.61 meters.

The Bobcats will next travel to the Texas Relays over the next weekend while also hosting the Bobcat Invitational on Thursday and Friday.
