Softball Drops Series to UTSA

San Marcos, Texas – The final game of the I-35 rivalry series saw UTSA come away with a 3-1 victory at Bobcat Softball Stadium. The Roadrunners completed the sweep of the Bobcats for the first time since 2004. The loss drops Texas State to 5-25, 0-3 in WAC play, while UTSA improves to 18-12, 3-0 in conference games.

Texas State took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Katie Doerre scored from first after a throw by the UTSA third baseman went past the first baseman and to the wall.

The Bobcats were able to hold the Roadrunners at a short distance, but UTSA managed two runs in the fourth inning to take a 2-1 edge over UTSA.

A one-out single to right center by Vivian Tijerina gave UTSA its third run of the game in the sixth inning.

Texas State threatened in the sixth inning with a pair of runners in scoring position with one out. Unfortunately, the Bobcats were not able to advance the runners to score any runs as they headed to the seventh inning down by two.

The Bobcats finished the final inning with three strike outs to suffer its first conference sweep of the season.

Rayn House (3-10) pitched 4.2 innings, and finished with a trio of strikeouts in the loss. Four different Bobcats tallied a hit today, while Anna Hernandez notched a hit in every game of the series.

Texas State will play at Texas A&M on Tuesday before heading to Seattle for a three-game conference series Friday and Saturday.
