San Marcos, Texas – Texas State softball opened Western Athletic Conference play today at Bobcat Softball Stadium with a doubleheader versus I-35 rival UTSA. The Roadrunners captured game one 3-1, and then earned a 4-0 win in game two to sweep the doubleheader.
Game 1
With runners on first and second Jordan Masek chopped the ball up the middle to the shortstop who failed to make the play at second resulting in a run scored by Kellie Baker in the bottom of the first.
Four innings later, UTSA rattled off three runs on five hits to take a 3-1 lead through five innings. Texas State stranded a pair of runners in the sixth inning, and was only able to tally one hit in the seventh inning as it dropped its first WAC game of the season.
Rayn House (2-10) suffered the loss in the circle. She fanned four batters in 4.1 innings of work. Four different Bobcats tallied one hit, while Texas State did not have a single player strike out.
Game 2
The first-five innings of game two saw the game tied at 0-All. The Roadrunners had a 5-4 edge in hits, but neither team was able to get a run across the plate.
The Roadrunners were able to break the game open in the top of the sixth when they scored on a bases loaded error by Jordan Masek. UTSA then doubled to left center to add a pair of runs, followed by a bases loaded single to left field. The Roadrunners totaled four runs in the inning to take a 4-0 advantage.
Texas State went three-up three-down in the bottom of the sixth, while UTSA added another run to its score with a solo homer in the seventh.
The Bobcats attempted a rally in the seventh, but fell short for its second loss of the day.
Ashley Wright (3-10) entered the game in the fourth inning and picked up the loss tonight. Anna Hernandez had a pair of singles to right field, as she finished the game 2-for-2.
Texas State and UTSA will play a single game tomorrow at 1 p.m. to close out the three-game series at Bobcat Softball Stadium.
