Match Statistics

San Marcos, Texas -
The Texas State women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season when the Bobcats dropped a 6-1 decision against Houston at the Bobcat Tennis Complex on Sunday afternoon.

The Bobcats fell behind 1-0 in doubles play after suffering a doubles loss for the first time this season with setbacks in the No. 1 and No. 3 matches. Sunday began with Rachel Baldree and Monica Pieratt suffering an 8-0 loss against Celia Frasier and Maja Kazimieruk in the No. 3 match.  Then, Jessica Kahts and Gabriela Rojas fell 8-2 versus Rocio Martin Fernandez and Charlotte Phillips in the No. 1 match.

Texas State looked to get back into contention in singles play when Bérénice Van den Bergh won her No. 6 match against Dionne Sanders by a score of 6-4, 6-3. However, despite some hard-fought points, that was the only match the Bobcats would win.

Hadad dropped a 6-2, 6-4 decision in the No. 2 match against Fraser just before Kahts fought Kordolaimi to a tiebreaker in the second set of her match on the No. 1 court. However, Kordolaimi won the tiebreaker 7-4 to claim the victory 6-2, 7-6. The Cougars clinched the victory when Baldree dropped the No. 3 match against Martin-Fernandez by the score of 6-3, 6-2.

Pieratt won the first set of the No. 4 match against Phillips by a score of 7-5 after trailing 4-1 early in the match. She tried to come back in the second set trailing 4-3, but dropped the last two games to force a third set. However, Phillips won the first point and final point to capture the set and match by a 6-4 score.

A tiebreaker also proved to be the deciding point in the final match of the day. This time it came in the second set of the No. 5 match when Perez dropped the tiebreaker 7-4 against Kazimieruk, who won 7-5, 7-6 (7-4).

Texas State will look to win its third match of the season next Friday, Feb. 15, when the Bobcats play host to UTSA at the Bobcat Tennis Complex. The match begins at noon. Texas State also plays host to Northwestern State on Saturday.
