Women's Basketball Takes On UTEP Saturday

SAN MARCOS, Texas –
After coming off of a tough home loss to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, the Texas State women's basketball team heads to El Paso, Texas to take on the UTEP Miners on Saturday. UTEP, a team who is currently receiving votes in the Associated Press Poll and the USA Today Coaches Poll, has started the 2013-14 season with a 5-0 record.

Victories for the Miners include a 47-point victory over Big XII opponent Kansas State and a pair of wins over Northern Arizona and Northern Colorado.

Through the first five games of the season, UTEP has an offense that is producing 81.6 points per game. Kayla Thornton, the leading scorer for the Miners, is averaging 15.8 of those points. She also leads the squad in rebounding, snagging 8.4 boards per contest.

The Miners are under the direction of head coach Keitha Adams who is currently in her 13th season at the helm of the Miners. During her tenure, Adams has brought home three league championships, including claiming both the 2013 Conference USA regular season and tournament title, and has led her team to the NCAA Tournament two times since her hiring back in 2001.
