The Bobcats will begin the season Friday, August 24 in College Station at the Texas A&M Tournament. The tournament will feature USC, a 2011 Final Four participant, as well as the Aggies, who advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Rounding out the field for the two-day event will be North Dakota State, also a 2011 NCAA Tournament participant.
“We have once again put together a very competitive and aggressive schedule,” said head coach Karen Chisum. “We start the season with a very competitive tournament, so we should see early how we size up with some of the best in the country.”
Texas State will play its first game in Strahan Coliseum on Tuesday, August 28 against former Southland Conference foe Sam Houston State. That weekend, the Bobcats will make a trek to Beaumont for the Lamar Invitational, which will include Louisiana Tech, South Carolina State and Tulane.
Texas State's non-conference schedule continues when the team takes on Baylor in Waco on Tuesday, September 4. The Bobcats will look to get revenge on the Bears after falling 3-2 in their final home game of the 2011 season. Following Baylor, the team will travel up I-35 for the SMU Invitational, September 7-8, which will also include matches against Mustangs, Auburn and Wichita State.
“We jump into WAC play fairly early, and we're excited about the competition,” Chisum said. “We have a lot of questions at this time, so we will see how competitive we can be in a new league.”
The Bobcats will play their first-ever game in the WAC on Thursday, September 13 in San Marcos against San Jose State. Two days later, the team will have its second conference game of the season against Utah State before beginning a three-game away stretch with contests against UTSA, Idaho and Seattle.
“We have fewer matches at home than we have had in the past, so I hope our fans mark their calendars early so they don't miss any of them,” Chisum said. “It will be different this year without hosting our home tournament. We tried to make it happen, but the circumstances didn't allow for it to happen this year.”
The Bobcats will begin October with two homes games against UT Arlington and Louisiana Tech. The team will then take trips to Denver, New Mexico State and San Jose State before ending the month with a three-game homestand against UTSA, Seattle and Idaho.
The month of November will include the final five matches of the regular season with Louisiana Tech, UT Arlington, New Mexico State, Denver and Utah State. The Bobcats' final home game will be Saturday, Nov. 10 against Denver.
The WAC Tournament will be held Monday, November 19 – Wednesday, November 21 in San Antonio.
