San Marcos, Texas – The Texas State men's and women's track and field teams will host their second meet of the 2012 season this weekend with the two-day Bobcat Classic, beginning Friday, April 27 at the Texas State Track and Field Stadium.

The meet will start at 11 a.m. on Friday with the men's hammer throw and conclude with the discus later that afternoon. On Saturday, competition begins at 9 a.m. with the men's 5000-meter run while the field events are set to start at 10 a.m. with the men's javelin, long jump and women's pole vault.

A total of 17 schools will be in attendance, which includes teams such as Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Texas, Houston, North Texas, UTSA, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and McNeese State.

Last weekend, several Bobcats posted personal records at the Michael Johnson Dr. Pepper Classic in Waco, which was the team's final away meet on their pre-conference slate.

“We did a better job last week in competing,” said head coach Dana Boone. “It's time to get it done.”

On the field, junior Kelsey Titzman collected two personal-bests as the thrower had a distance of 53.92 meters (176-11) in the hammer and 15.07 meters (49-05.50) in the shot put. Also in the hammer was freshman Darian Brown, who threw 53.02 meters (173-11) in the hammer for a personal-best. In the jumps, freshman Allie Saunders had 12.11 meters (39-08.75) in the triple jump to set a new record for herself in the event.

On the track, senior distance runners Michael Morris and Sandra Venegas posted huge personal-bests as Morris bettered his time in the 5000 meters by 24 seconds with 14:50.68 while Venegas improved by 31 seconds with 17:14.46. In the hurdles, juniors Chante'sean White and Danessa Lyssy set personal-bests as White ran 58.35 in the 400-meter hurdles and Lyssy timed 14.42 in the 100-meter hurdles. In the 800 meters, freshman Charles Grethen clocked a new personal record in the event with 1:49.03, finishing less than a second away from breaking his second school record of the year.

“I hope for some more personal-bests this week so we go into conference with some confidence,” Boone said. “It's their last opportunity to compete, and for some it's their last chance to qualify for conference.”
