Bobcat Softball Sweeps UTSA in Last Home Series of the Season

San Marcos, Texas – Texas State (31-15, 14-2 SLC) wrapped up its last home game of the season with a doubleheader sweep over UTSA (20-24, 9-7 SLC). The Bobcats finished conference play at home with a perfect 10-0 record. Texas State won game one, 2-1, in ten innings, and then captured game two, 6-3.

Game 1: Texas State 2, UTSA 1 (10)  Box Score

After ten innings of play over a span of two hours, Courtney Harris would be the one to close out the game when she hit a walk-off double to right center to lift the Bobcats to a 2-1 win over UTSA in game one of the doubleheader.

UTSA was the first team to tally a run when Ashley Kappler doubled down the left field line in the top of the tenth inning to drive in Siera Sproul who was at second base thanks to the international tie breaker rule.

In a score or lose situation, Haley Lemons was placed on second due to the tiebreaker and Chandler Hall was walked to put runners on first and second. Before the start of the tenth inning, Hall was the only Bobcat to record a hit in the game. It would change when Harris knocked the ball to right center to drive in both runners for the win.

Hall (18-6) earned the win to remain undefeated in conference play with nine victories. She fanned 13 Roadrunners to tie her career high. Haylee Staton suffered the loss for UTSA as she dropped to 12-6 overall in the circle.

Game 2:   Texas State 6, UTSA 3  Box Score

Texas State got the bats swinging early in game two as Brooke Baker singled in the first inning for the Bobcats first hit of the game.

The second inning is where the Bobcats would take a 2-0 lead on the Roadrunners. Courtney Harris had a one-out walk, followed by a double by Coralee Ramirez to put runners at second and third. Jordan Masek found a gap in left center that was good enough for a double and a 2-0 lead.

Three innings later, the Bobcats would put together a four-run, five-hit inning to extend their lead to 6-0 after five innings.

The Roadrunners managed three runs in the top of the sixth inning to come to within three of the Bobcats, but it would not be enough to steal a win from the Cats.

Anne Marie Taylor picked up her 13th win of the season as she fanned five batters. Alyssa Vordenbaum was handed the loss to fall to 3-10.

Texas State will play its final four games of the regular season on the road. The Bobcats will play at Northwestern State April 27-28, and then close out the season at Sam Houston State; May 4-5/
