San Marcos, Texas – Texas State softball will host UTSA on Tuesday in its final home series of the season. The Bobcats and the Roadrunners will face off in the annual Rivalry Series game with a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. at Bobcat Field.
The Bobcats (29-15) enter the week with a 12-2 conference record; good enough for first place in the league standings. The Roadrunners (20-22) are 9-5 with a fourth-place standing. UTSA leads the all-time series, 35-43. Texas State won the last outing, 4-1, on April 30 2011 in San Marcos.
UTSA is on a three-game win streak, including a recent sweep of UT Arlington at home. Freshman catcher Megan Low has a .377 hitting percentage to lead the Roadrunners who have four players with a batting average of .300 or more. Junior pitcher Haylee Staton has a 12-5 win-loss record to go along with a 2.70 ERA and 107 strikeouts.
Texas State is 15-1 at home this season and 12-0 at Bobcat Field in conference play. Junior second baseman Anna Hernandez and freshman Selena Hernandez have a team-high 40 hits. A. Hernandez leads the Bobcats with a .325 hitting percentage and 19 RBI. Senior pitcher Chandler Hall is 12-8 in the circle with 159 strikeouts. Hall and Anne Marie Taylor have a league-best 0.63 ERA in Southland Conference action.
The Bobcats will close out the regular season with road trips to Northwestern State and Sam Houston State over the next two weekends. The Southland Conference Tournament will begin on Thursday, May 10 in San Antonio, Texas, hosted by UTSA. The three-day tournament will conclude on Saturday, May 12 with the championship game.
