Austin, Texas – A total of 17 athletes from the Texas State men's and women's track and field teams took part in the Texas Relays on day three of the competition at Mike A. Myers stadium in Austin.
The women's 4x400-meter relay was the highlight of the day as the team of Morgan Canty, Chante'sean White, Kellie Trinkaus and Katie Miller timed 3:39.86 to finish 13th out of 49 teams. The team improved their season-best by nearly five seconds from last week's time and moved into fourth place all-time in the Texas State record books.
“We switched the order a little bit and told them what they needed to do,” said head coach Dana Boone. “They went out there with a lot of confidence.”
The 4x100-meter relay team of Timothy Young, James Johnson, Reggie Reed and Brandon Thomas missed out on another school record this week, timing 40.43 to finish 10th, one place out of qualifying for the finals.
In the 100 meters, sophomore James Johnson recorded a season-best 10.57, just .01 seconds off his personal-best, to finish 20th in a field of 62. On the women's side, sophomore Franchelle Hill posted a season-best with 12.02.
“It was a solid start for the 100,” Boone said.
The Bobcats will close out the Texas Relays tomorrow with competition beginning at 12:15 p.m. featuring White in the 400-meter hurdle finals.
