Austin, Texas – On day two of the Texas Relays, junior Danessa Lyssy made her mark in school history Thursday afternoon with a new school record in the heptathlon.

Lyssy set two more personal-bests today to finish 15th with 5045 points. Lyssy bettered Katherine Evans' 2011 total of 5007, which was set at the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships last May. Lyssy began the day in the long jump with a personal-best of 5.42 meters (17-09.50) followed by a 30.35-meter (99-07) showing in the javelin. Lyssy ended the day in the 800 meters with a personal-best of 2:29.59.

“She came into this meet hoping to set a school record,” said head coach Dana Boone. “She had seven multi PR's and five lifetime-bests so we're excited for her.”

In the 400-meter hurdles, junior Chante'sean White qualified for the finals on Saturday as she timed a season-best 59.28 to finish seventh in a field of 60.

“I thought she competed a little more aggressively,” Boone said. “She's figured some things out.”

In the evening session, senior Michael Morris finished the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:10.33 to finish sixth with the second-best time in school history.

“He went out there and was aggressive with the race, and that's what he had hoped to do,” Boone said.

The Bobcats will begin action tomorrow with the women's 4x100-meter relay at 9:30 a.m.
