San Marcos, Texas – The Texas State baseball team will welcome Notre Dame to Bobcat Ballpark this weekend for a three-game series beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams will play again on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. before wrapping up the set on Sunday at 12 p.m.
The Bobcats (5-3), ranked No. 4 in the latest College Baseball Daily Mid-Major Top 25, are coming off a midweek win against No. 18 TCU on Tuesday. The Bobcats have won three consecutive games entering the weekend, the last two of which were shutout victories.
Notre Dame (5-1) is off to its best start through six games since 2004 and will play its first true road games of the season this weekend. The Fighting Irish were part of the Big East/Big Ten Challenge played in Florida to begin the season before playing a three-game set against Hofstra in North Carolina last weekend.
The series could prove to be a matchup of strengths with the Texas State pitching staff (1.78 team ERA) going up against the Notre Dame bats (.335 team batting average). Meanwhile, Texas State's offense is hitting .248 so far in 2012, while the Notre Dame pitching staff has a 6.50 ERA.
The Bobcats and Fighting Irish have played three games previously since head coach Ty Harrington took over the program, with the Bobcats coming away victorious in all three. Friday will mark the first time Texas State has hosted Notre Dame at Bobcat Ballpark.
