San Marcos, Texas – The Texas State (8-8, 1-2 SLC)) men's basketball team will travel to Huntsville to face Sam Houston State (7-10, 1-2 SLC) on Wednesday. Tip-off at Johnson Coliseum is slated for 7 p.m.
Series
Texas State leads the all-time series, 92-80. The Bobcats have won two of the last three outings, but the Bearkats grabbed the last victory, 68-52 at home.
Scouting Texas State
Texas State is coming off an 82-73 victory over McNeese State. The Bobcats handed the Cowboys their first conference loss of the season as they picked up their first win of the New Year.
Texas State leads the SLC in scoring (80.7 ppg) and is second in field goal percentage (.449), and third in three-point percentage (.360).
After three games down in SLC play, the Bobcats are tied for fourth place in the West Division with an 8-8 overall record and an 1-2 league record.
The Bobcats are led in scoring by senior Brooks Ybarra with 11.6 ppg and 3.6 rpg. Junior forward Matt Staff is second with 11.1 ppg and 7.4 rpg. Senior Eddie Rios rounds out the top three with 10.3 ppg and 2.8 apg.
Scouting Sam Houston State
Sam Houston State enters Wednesday's contest with a 7-10 overall record and 1-2 record in conference play. The Bearkats are tied with Texas State for fourth place in the SLC West Division standings. The Bearkats are 6-1 at home so far this season.
Sam Houston State has won three of their last five games, including a 75-65 victory over Nicholls on the road in their last outing.
The Bearkats lead the conference in field goal percentage defense (.400), but rank tenth in the league in field goal percentage at .405. Konner Tucker is the team's leader scorer averaging 11.2 points per game and 3.8 rebounds per game. Demarcus Gatlin is second in scoring with 10.4 ppg, followed by Steven Werner with 10.1 ppg.
