San Marcos, Texas –
A crowd of 856 fans came to Strahan Coliseum on Monday evening to watch the Texas State volleyball team win its fourth consecutive home opener as the Bobcats defeated visiting West Virginia, 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-19).

The Bobcats improved to 4-3 overall after the team completed its second sweep of the season in impressive fashion. Meanwhile, West Virginia fell to 2-5 overall with the loss, one night after being dealt a three-set loss to UTSA in San Antonio.

Junior Caleigh McCorquodale ran a very effective Texas State offense that finished the match with a .387 hitting percentage, the second highest mark for the team this season. The setter handed out a match-high 43 assists and also put down three kills herself as the team finished with a 50-34 advantage in kills. McCorquodale was also a major contributor on the defensive side of the net where she made 13 digs en route to her third consecutive double-double and fourth this season.

On the offensive side of the net, senior Amber Calhoun, sophomore Amari Deardorff and senior Lindy DeGeare each made the most of their swings. Calhoun, a 6-foot-1 middle blocker from Houston, led the team with a match-high 15 kills along with a .435 hitting percentage. She was also just one dig shy of her second career double-double, finishing with nine saves on the night.

Deardorff put down 11 kills on her 20 attempts with just one error for a match-high .500 hitting percentage, while DeGeare pounded nine kills with a .381 hitting percentage along with recording the only two aces of the match.

Freshman libero Laura Whalen ran her streak of consecutive matches with at least 10 digs to seven games to begin her Bobcat career after she notched a match-high 16 saves and anchored a Texas State defense that held a 51-40 advantage in digs.

With the boisterous home crowd behind them, the Bobcats came out strong in the first set with a 10-4 run to behind the match, culminating in DeGeare's first ace of the match that forced West Virginia to call a timeout. The Bobcats maintained their six-point advantage throughout the course of the set and finished off the period on a three-point run that included two blocks and a kill from sophomore Ashlee Hilbun for a 25-16 first-set win.

Calhoun was nearly unstoppable in the second set as her connected with McCorquodale for six kills on seven attempts during the set, four of which came over the course of the team's final seven points. With the score knotted at 18-18, McCorquodale found sophomore Melissa Toth for a kill followed by a pair of kills from Calhoun, forcing a West Virginia timeout. The Bobcats kept the pressure on out of the break, scoring four of the next six points for a 25-21 win.

West Virginia held a brief lead in the third set before Texas State battled back and went on a 9-2 run midway through the set to take a 23-16 lead on Deardorffs 11th kill of the match. The visitors scored twice to come within four, but an attack error followed by Calhoun's 15th kill of the match sealed the victory for the Bobcats.
