San Marcos, Texas – After sweeping UTSA last weekend, the Texas State baseball team will have a four-game winning streak on the line when it heads to College Station on Tuesday for a showdown with No. 11 Texas A&M. Texas State, which is ranked No. 25 by Baseball America for the second consecutive week, and Texas A&M will play their only game of the season beginning at 6:35 p.m. at C.E. “Pat” Olsen Field.
The Bobcats will enter Tuesday's game with a 31-16 overall record, while the Aggies will sport a 32-16 mark after winning two of three games against Dallas Baptist last weekend.
Texas A&M has played two midweek games against Southland Conference opponents over the past two weeks and came up short in extra innings in both contests. Two weeks ago, the Aggies fell 8-5 in 12 innings against Sam Houston State, and last week, they were handed a 3-2 defeat in 10 innings against UTSA.
While Texas A&M holds a 37-12 lead in the all-time series against Texas State, the Bobcats claimed the most recent matchup between the two teams when they met last season. Kyle Kubitza hit a game-tying home run to begin the bottom of the 11th inning, and Texas State got a walk-off RBI single from Laurn Randell to secure the 6-5 win.
On Tuesday, sophomore Travis Ballew will make his fifth start of the season. The right-hander brings a 3-1 record along with a 4.58 ERA and 42 strikeouts over 37 1/3 innings into the contest. He held Texas scoreless over five innings in his most recent start.
Starting for Texas A&M will be freshman, righty Derrick Hadley. He has a 0-0 record with a 2.30 ERA entering Tuesday when he will make his second start of the season.
