Box Score

Honolulu, Hawaii
– Backed by a complete-game shutout by junior pitcher Chandler Hall, Texas State beat UC Davis, 4-0, in its season opener at the Oceanic Time Warner Paradise Classic this afternoon in Honolulu, Hawaii.

After missing a few chances to score in the first-two innings, Texas State made up for it in the third. UC Davis walked senior third baseman Jenna Emery to lead things off. Next, sophomore second baseman Anna Hernandez got on first base with a fielder's choice to put runners on first and second. Texas State continued to move its offense as junior pitcher Chandler Hall laid down a sacrifice bunt which moved both runners a base. An RBI single by designated player McKenzie Baack drove in Emery for the Bobcats first score of the day. Hernandez tallied Texas State's second run on a successful squeeze play by the Bobcats. Texas State tallied one more score in the inning when freshman shortstop Jordan Masek singled to left field providing room at the plate for Baack to record the Bobcats third run.

The Bobcats tacked on its fourth run in the top of the seventh when Masek scored from first base on a throwing error by the UC Davis catcher attempting to pick-off Masek at second.

Baack and Masek led Texas State with two hits each. Both players registered an RBI and scored a run. Baack's pair of hits moved her hit streak to three rolling over from last season.

Hall pitched her 16th career complete-game to tie her for the fifth most in Bobcat history. She fanned seven batters, walked one and allowed five hits.

Today's win marked the second straight season that the Bobcats have opened the year with a victory.

Texas State will hit the field tomorrow at 7 p.m. CT to play Southern Utah.  The Thunderbirds play Hawaii in the night cap before facing the Bobcats tomorrow. Southern Utah leads the all-time series 2-3. The two teams last played each other in 1994 where the Bobcats won, 7-0. Texas State has won the last two outings.
