Bobcats Eliminate UT Arlington, Advance to Title Game against Lamar

Corpus Christi - The Texas State baseball team exploded for six runs in the top of the first and managed to maintain the lead with a pair of multi-run homers from Jeff McVaney and eliminated UT Arlington with a 15-10 victory over the Mavericks to advance to the championship game of the Southland Conference Tournament Saturday afternoon at Whataburger Field.

Lee Colon improved to 5-3 on the season after a 5.2 stint on the mound. The southpaw allowed eight runs off seven hits with seven strikeouts. Fielding Pittman pitched 3.1 innings to close out the game and held the Mavericks to just two runs to pick up his first save of the season.

McVaney went 2-for-5 with five RBI to lead Texas State's 20-hit attack. Kyle Kubitza, Jason Martinson, Andrew Stumph and Clint Vest all tallied three hits in the victory, as well.

Texas State will now face the Lamar Cardinals at 6 p.m. in the championship game. The decision will be broadcast on Southland TV. Fans can also follow along on 89.9 KTSW FM and through live stats on www.txstatebobcats.com.
