DESTIN, Florida – Texas State men's golf opened the 2026-27 season with an eight-place finish at the Sandestin Collegiate Classic hosted by the Bobcats at The Raven Golf Club at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort.
In his first action as a Bobcat,
Ben McFadden collected a top-10 finish, tying for 10th at 2-under. McFadden (67-69-72--208) was one of six players new to the TXST lineup competing at the event. The junior fired a pair of rounds under par to open the three-day event, which included 11 of his 12 total birdies at the tournament. Additionally, he led the field going -5 on par 3s.
Dean Richards (68-67-72--209) also had a strong showing in his first outing representing TXST as he finished -1 and tied for 13th. The senior's best round of the tournament came on Tuesday when he fired four birdies on the back nine to sign for a 3-under 67.
Rhett O'Rear (70-75-73--218, T47),
José Berenguel (73-76-70--219, T50) and
Lucky Cruz (79-72-75--226, T68) closed out the TXST lineup, with Berenguel checking in as one of only eight players to register an eagle at the event.
José Arzú (71-72-69--212) and
Corrington Case (74-74-76--224) represented the Bobcats as individuals placing tied for 25th and tied for 64th, respectively.
2025-26 Recap
The Bobcats competed in 10 tournaments during the 2025-26 season, opening the fall with the Myrtle Beach Golf Trips Intercollegiate in South Carolina before traveling to Florida for the Sandestin Collegiate Classic and Colorado for the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational. The Bobcats closed the 2025 portion of the schedule with a fifth-place finish at the Saint Mary's Invitational in Monterey, California, it's best finish of the fall. TXST returned to action in February with tournaments in Alabama and Nevada, highlighted by a tie for fifth at the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate, before continuing through Louisiana and Texas in March. The Bobcats posted their best team finish of the spring with a third-place showing at the Mobile Bay Collegiate in Alabama, then wrapped up the regular season with a ninth-place finish at the Lewis Chitengwa Memorial in Virginia. Texas State concluded the season at the Sun Belt Championship in Madison, Mississippi, finishing tied for 12th.

CSC Academic All-District | Ben Loveard and
Sakke Siltala were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District At-Large Team, recognizing their excellence both on the course and in the classroom during the 2025-26 season. The program honors student-athletes who excel academically and athletically. To be eligible, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher, compete in at least 70 percent of their institution's scoring events or participate in the conference championship lineup, and be at least a sophomore academically and athletically.
Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars | Jose Berenguel,
Ben Loveard and
Sakke Siltala were each named Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars, earning recognition for their accomplishments both on the course and in the classroom. To qualify for consideration, NCAA Division I student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically and athletically, participate in at least 50 percent of their team's competitive rounds, maintain a stroke average under 76.0 and achieve a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. Honorees must also demonstrate high moral character and remain in good standing at their respective institutions.
All-Sun Belt Conference | For the third consecutive season,
Sakke Siltala was recognized as an all-league selection. Siltala, who is closing out four years as a standout for the Bobcats, earned third-team honors following his final campaign at TXST. The senior finished the season with a team-best 71.7 scoring average, while also leading the Bobcats with eight rounds in the 60s, 20 even or under par, six eagles and 123 birdies. In 33 rounds played, 29 were counted toward the team score including a career-low 64 to open the spring at the Hal Williams Collegiate. Overall, Siltala led the Bobcats in six of 11 tournaments, turned in four top-10 finishes and had his best outing, a fifth place finish, at the Lake Las Vegas Invitational
