No. 17 Texas State Closes Homestand Hosting Rice

SAN MARCOS, Texas - No. 17 Texas State (5-0-1) looks to carry its momentum into Thursday night when the Bobcats welcome Rice (1-2-2) to the Bobcat Soccer Complex for a 7:30 p.m. (CT) kickoff.

SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
  • Following the program's first-ever national ranking announced a week ago at No. 21, Texas State continued to execute over the course of the week and outscored its opponents 7-0 in back-to-back shutouts over in-state foes East Texas A&M and Texas Southern at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.
  • Texas State remains the top-ranked program in the Pacific Region and the Pac-12 Conference's lone representative, while also holding the highest ranking among teams in the state of Texas.
  • The Bobcats eye its best start in program history since 2022 when Rice visits San Marcos on Thursday. The 2022 team started the campaign 6-0-1, and also marked the last time the program fired a five-game winning streak. The 2026 Bobcats are on a near identical track and have won five straight since the season opener 2-2 draw at UTSA.
  • A Bobcat team that just set a program record in assists a year ago (45) continued the trend early in 2026, with a Pac-12-best 16 total and seven versus UTRGV alone. (11th nationally)
  • Assists are one of three categories the Bobcats lead the conference in, with the other two being total goals (19, 11th nationally) total points (54, 12th nationally), and goal differential (13, 13th nationally).
SCOUTING THE OWLS
  • Rice brings in a 1-2-2 record into the match at the Bobcat Soccer Complex with its lone victory at Navy by a 3-0 final score. After opening the season dropping the match with the Aggies, the Owls have since battled to back-to-back 1-1 draws at Houston Christian and Lamar. Most recently, Rice was dealt its second loss of the season to No. 3 Vanderbilt.
  • Rice is slated for a three-match stretch versus ranked opponents, first was with No. 3 Vanderbilt, then at No. 17 Texas State, followed by a trip to Tallahassee at No. 15 Florida State.
  • Junior Lily Reuscher was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List after earning Second Team All-Region honors as a defender a season ago.
ALL-TIME SERIES HISTORY
  • The Owls lead the all-time series 7-3-2, and held a five-match win streak over the Bobcats from 2004-2007, and its fifth victory in 2012. The Bobcats broke the Owls' seven-match unbeaten streak on Sep. 8, 2022 at the Bobcat Soccer Complex by a 2-1 victory.
  • The most recent match between the in-state foes came in the 2024 season opener, with the Owls handing the Bobcats a 2-1 loss in Houston.
  • Matches played at the Bobcat Soccer Complex in the all-time series history are level at 2-2-1, as the Bobcats look to grab its first home win hosting Rice since 2022.
