Three Texas State Throwers Advance to NCAA Outdoor Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.— Texas State track and field qualified three more student-athletes for the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Thursday during the second day of competition at the NCAA West First Round at John McDonnell Field.

The Bobcats were led by their women's throws group as Lara Roberts, Elisabet Runarsdottir and Charlize Goody each secured top-12 finishes to earn trips to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, scheduled for June 10-13 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

Roberts opened the day by placing third in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 67.76 meters. Runarsdottir followed with a sixth-place finish in the hammer throw after recording a mark of 66.11 meters.

In the women's javelin, sophomore Charlize Goody delivered a historic performance. Goody placed third with a throw of 52.62 meters, setting a Texas State school record while securing her first career trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Freshman Caden Ohara represented Texas State in the men's pole vault after the event was postponed from Wednesday evening because of weather. O'Hara cleared 5.22 meters and finished 17th overall, narrowly missing a national qualifying position in his first collegiate outdoor season.

Sophia Haberer also came close to advancing in the women's shot put. The sophomore finished 17th with a top mark of 15.92 meters, five places shy of qualifying for Eugene.

Texas State will continue competition Friday with several opportunities to add to its list of NCAA qualifiers.

Danie Strooh is scheduled to open the day in the men's discus at 1 p.m., followed by high jumpers Aiden Hayes and Tshephang Dankuru at 2 p.m.

On the track, Drew Donley will compete in the quarterfinals of the 100 meters and 200 meters, while Ja'Shaun Lloyd is set to race in both the 110-meter hurdles and 100 meters. Mihajlo Katanic will close out the day for the Bobcats in the quarterfinals of the 400-meter hurdles.
