OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Texas State's
Dawson Park was named a Brooks Wallace Award semifinalist on Wednesday by the College Baseball Foundation. The top 50 shortstops in the country were selected based on both their offensive and defensive production this season.
The award honors the nation's top shortstop and will be presented by the College Baseball Foundation later this year. It is named for former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977-80 and died of leukemia at the age of 27.
So far this season, Park is batting .321 (52-for-162) with a team leading 13 home runs and 50 RBI. His homer total is tied for the most in the Sun Belt Conference and his RBI mark is tied for the second most in the league. He has also hit eight doubles and scored 30 runs while sporting a 1.019 OPS. The sophomore is second on the team with eight stolen bases.
Of the team's 44 double plays, Park has taken part in 29 of them. He has recorded 127 assists and 61 putouts in the field.
Park is the first Texas State player to be named a semifinalist for the award since Dalton Shuffield in 2019.
