SAN MARCOS, Texas – A combined 24 runs were scored Thursday night at Bobcat Ballpark that saw Texas State (10-2) claim a 13-11 victory over future Pac-12 Conference foe Washington State (5-7) in the series opener.

Sam Hall (1-0) earned his first victory of the season after throwing three innings and striking out three in his third start of the season. Earning his third save of the year was
Wade Cooper as she struck out the side in the ninth on 11 pitches. Credited with the loss was Luke Meyers (1-2) in which he gave up five runs on four hits and three walks in two innings.

Working 2.2 innings in relief with a strikeout was
Cade Smith. Both
Alec Beversdorf and
Ryan Markwardt threw an inning apiece.

At the plate,
Rashawn Galloway was 4-for-5 with three RBI and one double.
Brady Boles finished with three RBI, two base knocks and scored twice. Also having a multi-hit game was
Manny Salas as he finished with a double and home run.

Jackson Cotton also left the yard for his team leading fourth homer of the season.
Tanner Carson scored three runs and fellow freshman
Clayton Namken drove in two runs and scored two runs.

Salas got the scoring started in the second inning by sending a 0-1 pitch over the left centerfield wall. Boles and Namken would drive in a run apiece on singles. The final two runs of the frame came via a wild pitch and a passed ball.

The Cougars got on the scoreboard when Gavin Roy doubled to right center to plate a run. He was thrown out trying to stretch his base knock into a triple.

In the bottom of the frame, Salas led off with a double to left center and he came around to score when Carson singled back up the middle.
Chase Mora singled through the left side and Boles worked a walk to load the bases. Namken brought a run home on a sacrifice fly.

Following a free pass to Cotton to reload the bases, Galloway sent a 0-2 offering to left center for a two RBI double to increase the advantage to 9-1.

WSU cut into its deficit with two runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth. All six runs came via long balls.

Texas State responded with a run in the fifth on an RBI single from Galloway. Two more were added in the sixth when Boles singled down the right field line. Cotton wrapped up the scoring for the Bobcats in the seventh when he led off the frame with a home run to left center.

In the eighth, the Cougars plated four runs to cut their deficit to 13-11.

Cooper came in and closed out the game by striking out the side.

Friday will see the teams play a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. with the second game starting 45 minutes after the conclusion of the first contest.
