Bobcats Blow Past Georgia State to Complete Road Sweep

ATLANTA – Texas State (19-8, 6-3 Sun Belt) scored the first 11 runs of the game on the way to a 12-3 victory on Saturday over Georgia State (13-16, 2-7 Sun Belt) to complete the weekend sweep and extend the winning streak to seven games. It is the first time that the Bobcats have swept a Sun Belt Conference road series since 2022.

"Sweeping is tough and on the road, it is really hard. This group is playing with a ton of confidence and having fun showing up to the ballpark every day," said head coach Steven Trout.

"Really proud of the team for finishing off the weekend and week on a high note. Jesus Tovar was really good again and we played great defense behind him with four double plays. The offense was relentless and just continued to score in multiple ways."

Jesus Tovar (6-1) claimed the win after throwing six shutout innings with five strikeouts while giving up just three this and two walks. Cole Roberts (0-2) surrendered five runs on eight hits in five innings to take the loss.

Both Cade Smith and Alex Yearwood struck out three apiece in 1.1 and 1.0 innings, respectively. Both outs recorded by Alizaeh Gutierrez were also by a punch out.

At the plate, Chase Mora went 4-for-5 with three runs, two RBI and a double. Also going 4-for-5 was Dawson Park, who hit two home runs, drove in three and scored twice.

Rashawn Galloway finished with three base knocks to extend his hitting streak to 20 games. The senior scored two times, plated two runs and hit his 13th double of the season. Posting two RBI was Jackson Cotton while Ethan Farris and Manny Salas drove in a run apiece.

After a scoreless first inning, Park put Texas State on the scoreboard with a solo homer to centerfield. The lead would double in the third when Galloway hit an RBI double.

The fourth began with Park starting off the frame with his ninth long ball of the season. Tacking on a second run in the inning was Mora, who singled to left to bring home Jaquae Stewart.

Park drove in his third run of the game with two gone in the fifth when he laced a single through the left side of the infield.

Four more runs would be added to the scoreboard in the sixth. Galloway, Mora and Salas all plated a run each while the fourth came after the ball got away from the first baseman on a pickoff attempt.

With the bases loaded in the seventh, Cotton sent the first pitch he saw to right field for a two RBI single that put Texas State up by double-digits.

The first three batters reached base for the Panthers to load the bases in the bottom of the frame. The next two batters went down swinging but Cole Griffith put the hosts on the scoreboard with a single that was misplayed to clear the bases.

Free passes to Salas and Stewart sandwiched a double from Park to load the bases to begin the eighth. Farris hit a slow chopper to the third baseman, whose only play was to tag out Park and allow the final run of the game to score.

The bottom of the ninth saw the first two batters reach on walks. Yearwood settled down and struck out the next three hitters to finish the contest.
