SAN MARCOS, Texas – Tuesday night's game ended with an infield single courtesy of
Brady Boles and
Austin Munguia coming around to score from second on the base knock as Texas State (16-8) claimed an 8-7 walk-off victory over UTRGV (13-12) in Bobcat Ballpark.
Â
Rashawn Galloway extended his hitting streak to 17 games after going 2-for-4 with a double and RBI. Also finishing with two base knocks was
Chase Mora, who went 2-for-4 with a double and scored two runs. Both
Jackson Cotton and
Dawson Park hit their team leading seventh home runs.
Â
Picking up the win on the rubber was
Wade Cooper (2-0), after throwing two innings, striking out three and surrendering three unearned runs. Steven Oliva (0-1) took the lose as he gave up the game-winning run while recording one out.
Â
Will Canalichio made his second straight midweek start and went 2.1 innings with three runs and three hits allowed.
Cade Smith struck out two in 2.2 innings of relief. Tossing an inning apiece was
Alizaeh Gutierrez and Titan Targarc.
Â
The Vaqueros would jump out to a 3-0 lead as they scored a run apiece in the first three frames.
Â
In the fourth, the Bobcats figured out Robert Bonilla and were able to strike for two runs. The first came when Park blasted a 3-2 pitch over the left field wall and onto the softball field with two gone. After
Jaquae Stewart was hit by a pitch,
Ethan Farris laced a double to right center that scored the junior outfield from first.
Â
Mora sent the first pitch in the fifth down the right field line for a double. Cotton would then be plunked and Galloway immediately followed with a double two RBI double to left center to put TXST in front. A wild pitch allowed the senior outfielder to move up to third and he would score on a groundout back up the middle off the bat of
Manny Salas as the Bobcats went up 5-3.
Â
UTRGV would get a run back in the sixth when Diego Villescas hit a solo homer to right center.
Â
The seventh began with Mora hitting a single through the left side and then moving into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by Boles. A 0-1 offering to Cotton was sent over the right field wall to extend Texas State's advantage to 7-4.
Â
A wild pitch on a swinging third strike and a fielding error aided the Vaqueros in scoring three times in the top of the ninth to tie the game.
Â
The bottom of the frame saw
Clayton Namken lead off and reach base thanks to a throwing error by the third baseman. Munguia entered the game as a pinch runner and eventually stole second to move into scoring position. The senior catcher would take off for third on a 1-2 pitch to Boles, who hit the ball back up the middle. The UTRGV shortstop made a diving play to prevent the ball going into the outfield and made a throw to the plate from his knees. The ball pulled the catcher just to the right of the plate and that allowed Munguia to slide in safely for the walk-off victory.
Â
Next up for the Bobcats is a trip to Atlanta to take on Georgia State this weekend for a three-game series that begins on Friday at 5 p.m. CT.
