SAN MARCOS, Texas – It was a record setting day for the Texas State baseball team (15-8, 3-3 Sun Belt) in a 16-6 seven-inning run-rule victory over 25-ranked Louisiana (16-8, 2-4 Sun Belt) Sunday afternoon at Bobcat Ballpark.
Â
The Bobcats' 16 runs are the most they have ever scored against the Ragin' Cajuns, surpassing the previous mark of 13 recorded in 2019. The team also tied the program record for home runs in a game with eight that was set in 2023 against Northwestern. It was also the second time ever that TXST has ever defeated Louisiana by run-rule.
Â
Both
Ethan Farris and
Dawson Park hit two homers in the contest. Also leaving the yard was
Jackson Cotton,
Chase Mora,
Clayton Namken and
Manny Salas.
Â
All nine Bobcats in the lineup scored at least once with six scoring multiple times. Salas led the way as he came around to score three times. Both he and Farris drove in four runs while Park plated three and Cotton finished with two RBI.
Â
Jesus Tovar (5-1) struck out three and allowed three runs on five hits in five innings to pick up the win. JR Tollett (4-1) took the loss after giving up 11 runs on 11 hits in three innings.
Â
Also seeing action on the rubber for TXST was
Alex Yearwood. The redshirt freshman totaled four strikeouts in two innings.
Â
In the first, Texas State's first two batters reached base that included a single from
Rashawn Galloway to extend his hitting streak to 16 games. However, both runners were left on base.
Â
Farris kicked started the onslaught in the second by sending the first pitch of the frame over the left field wall. Cotton would crush a 0-1 offering by sending it 473 feet to right centerfield for a two-run home run later in the inning.
Â
In the third, Farris hit a three-run long ball to double the lead to 6-0. Two of the next three pitches were also sent over the outfield walls courtesy of Namken and Mora, respectively. It was the first time the Bobcats hit three consecutive round trippers since Apr. 29, 2025 against UTSA.
Â
Louisiana would get on the board in the fourth when Drew Markle reached on a fielder's choice that also plated a run.
Â
The next half inning saw Salas double to right center to drive in a run. The very next pitch to Park was blasted 458 to left center for a two-run homer to make it an 11-1 advantage.
Â
After the Cajuns responded with two runs in the top of the fifth, Texas State tallied four in the bottom of the inning. Salas hit a towering three-run home run to center field and Park immediately followed on the first pitch to him with a long ball down the left field line for the program's record tying round tripper.
Â
Louisiana scored three times in the sixth to cut its deficit to nine runs. Mora led off the next half inning with a bloop hit down the right field line that resulted in a triple. He would come home when
Brady Boles sent a 2-2 pitch back up the middle for a single.
Â
Yearwood would close out the game with a scoreless seventh. In the frame, he struck out four batters with one reaching base via a wild pitch on a swing third strike.
Â
Next up for the Bobcats is a Tuesday night contest against UTRGV at Bobcat Ballpark with first pitch set for 6 p.m.
