Bobcats Fall Late to ULM

MONROE, La. – A four-run seventh doomed Texas State (12-6, 0-2 Sun Belt) as ULM (11-9, 2-0 Sun Belt) won Saturday night's contest 8-5 from Lou St. Amant Field.

Holden Hess (1-2) threw the final four innings with three strikeouts and did not allow a hit to pick up the win. Alec Beversdorf (0-1) struck out five in three innings but gave up three runs to take the loss.

Sam Hall started and went three innings with four punch outs while giving up three runs on five hits. Cade Smith threw 1.2 shutout frames in relief.

At the plate, Rashawn Galloway reached base in all four of his plate appearances with three singles and one walk while also scoring two runs. Dawson Park drove in three runs and Jackson Cotton had two hits including a two-run home run.

The first five batters of the game for the Bobcats reached base. However, base running mistakes proved to be costly. Cotton led off with a single but would get picked off. After Galloway singled and Jaquae Stewart was hit by a pitch, Park appeared to hit a two-run double. The Warhawks appealed to first and the sophomore was called out as he missed touching the first base bag.

ULM would get on the scoreboard with a run in the second as it was assisted by two TXST errors on one play. The hosts would take a 4-2 lead in the fourth behind two solo homers and three wild pitches allowed another runner to score

In the fifth, Ethan Farris was walked and Cotton followed with a 400-foot home run to center field to tie the game. Park would then drive in Galloway on a double to right center to Texas State back in ahead 5-4.

The score remained the same until the seventh when the Warhawks scored four runs to go back in front for good.

Sunday's series finale is set for a 1 p.m. first pitch and will be streamed on ESPN+.
