Bobcat Softball Wins in Walk Off vs Northwestern, Drops Game to Arizona State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TEMPE, Ariz – Texas State Softball split its day at the Kajikawa Classic with a walk off win against Northwestern to win 4-3 and a loss to Arizona State by a 3-2 scoreline.

Aiyana Coleman hit the walk off home run to win the first game of the day against Northwestern, finishing the game with two RBI in addition to her hit and one walk.

How it Happened:
Game 1: TXST 4, Northwestern 3
Emma Strood started in the circle for the Bobcats, allowing an RBI double in the first inning for Northwestern to get on the board. The Bobcats answered that, though, loading the bases on two walks and a single so Coleman could score on a sac-fly.

There were just three hits between the two sides through the 2nd, 3rd and 4th innings as the game became a stalemate. In the fifth, though, the Bobcats took the lead on a throwing error by the Northwestern third basemen.

Northwestern hit back, though, with a solo homer off Strood in the top of the 6th to tie the game at two.

In the bottom half of the inning, Megan Kelnar led off with a single. She'd be pinch run for by Mel Reeves, who would go on to score from Keely Williams RBI single. That would put the Bobcats back ahead 3-2 heading into the final inning.

Northwestern tied the game up again, though, off another solo homer. Head coach Ricci Woodard then brought in Kaili Witherell to close the game out, she'd go on to get the win on the game.

Ultimately, Texas State got its first walk off win of the season off the bat of Preseason Sun Belt Player of the Year, Aiyana Coleman. On a 1-0 count, Coleman homered after a one-hit, 2 RBI, one intentional walk outing to win the game.

Game 2: TXST 2, Arizona State 3
Texas State started off the game against the Sun Devil with two scoreless innings, while allowing the Sun Devils to score on a 2 RBI single in the bottom of the 1st and a solo home run in the bottom of the 2nd. Maddy Azua pitched the complete game.

Kat Zarate hit a two-run home run in the top of the 4th, though, to make it a one run game. From there, escaped two errors in the bottom half of the inning to keep it that way. She retired the side in order in the bottom of the 5th.

Neither side was able to add a run in the sixth, and despite Mayson Garrett getting a single to right field the Bobcats were unable to find an answer for Arizona State's third run. The Sun Devil would go on to win 3-2.

After today's two games, Texas State is now 2-1 on the season.
