Women's Basketball Stages Comeback Win at South Alabama

MOBILE, Al. – It was a game of momentum in the Bobcats comeback win against the South Alabama Jaguars on Thursday night. Texas State improved its scoring in each quarter, while limiting the Jaguars to fewer points each quarter on its way to the 69-63 come-from-behind win.

Leading the way for Texas State was Saniya Burks with her 7th 20+ point game this season with 21 on 8-15 shooting. Alongside her was another double-digit outing for Kyra Anderson, and Deja Jones just shy of a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
South Alabama controlled the first quarter of the game, outscoring Texas State 23-14 while they shot 9-20 from the field with three three-pointers made. Texas State shot 6-19 to score 14 and found themselves down after the first quarter.

In the second, the team started to work at overcoming their deficit. Outscoring South Alabama 17-16, Texas State improved to 53.3% shooting, while South Alabama's hot streak went cold. The Jaguars shot just 28.6% in the second quarter to help Texas State find its way back into the game. Despite trailing by eight at the half, Texas State was able to carry momentum in the halftime break.

Texas State all but erased its deficit in the third quarter. Shooting 8-16, led by six from Angela Carroll and five from Anderson, Texas State outscored USA 18-12. The Jaguars weren't shooting bad, going 5-12, but 2-5 from the free throw line and Texas State outrebounding them 10-7 helped the Bobcats control the pace of the game. Texas State trailed by just two at the end of the third quarter.

South Alabama started the fourth quarter on a run, extending their lead back out to as much as eight just two minutes into the quarter. This didn't deter the Bobcats, though, as they continued to battle back. It was a layup and-one from Burks with less than two minutes to go that tipped the score in favor of the Bobcats for the first time all night. From there, South Alabama called a timeout, but to no avail. Texas State extended its lead out to six in the end, winning 69-63.

After today's win at South Alabama, Texas State is now 11-13 on the season and remains 7-6 in Sun Belt.
