Tennis Set for Two Road Matches Against WAC Opponents

SAN MARCOS, Texas Texas State women's tennis returns to the road this weekend for a pair of matches against Western Athletic Conference opponents as the Bobcats continue their spring season.

Texas State opens the weekend Saturday in Stephenville, Texas, facing Tarleton State at 11 a.m. at the Potishman-Lard Tennis Courts. The Bobcats will then travel to Abilene, Texas, on Sunday to take on Abilene Christian at noon at the John T.L. Jones Tennis Building.

The matches mark Texas State's first road contests since its trip to UTRGV on Jan. 31. The Bobcats enter the weekend riding a four-match winning streak, including two victories on the road.

Texas State is 2-2 in away matches this season, with losses coming in the season-opening doubleheader against Wichita State and No. 6 Oklahoma.

Tarleton State enters Saturday's match on a four-match winning streak after opening the spring season with back-to-back losses to Wyoming, 4-3, and No. 6 Oklahoma, 4-0. The Texans have since posted consecutive victories over Weatherford College (7-0), Oral Roberts (5-0), Collin County Community College (5-0) and McNeese (4-1).

Tarleton State is led by senior Ximena Morales along with freshmen Aya Ishii and Marissa Minetti. Morales holds a 5-1 singles record this season competing on courts three and four. Ishii is also 5-1 while playing primarily on courts one and two, while Minetti owns a 4-0 mark competing on courts four through six. Ishii and Minetti have paired for a 4-2 record in doubles competition on courts one and two.

Texas State and Tarleton State have met four previous times, with the Bobcats holding a 3-1 advantage in the series, including a 2-1 record at home and a 1-0 mark on the road. Texas State won last season's meeting 4-2.

Abilene Christian enters Sunday's matchup with a 3-5 record after dropping three straight matches to Wichita State, Nebraska and McNeese. The Wildcats will host UIW on Friday at 2 p.m. before facing Texas State on Sunday at noon.

Abilene Christian opened the season with losses to SMU (6-1) and No. 20 Texas Tech (7-0) before responding with three consecutive wins over UTRGV (6-1), UTSA (4-3) and Stephen F. Austin (5-2). The Wildcats currently hold a 2-1 record at home this season.

Texas State and Abilene Christian have met once previously, with the Bobcats holding a 1-0 advantage in the series. Texas State won last season's meeting 5-2 at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
