MARICOPA, Arizona – The Texas State men's golf team wrapped up postseason action at the three-day National Golf Invitational hosted at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Arizona.
Freshman
Jaxon Donaldson (73-69-73--215) was the top finisher for the Bobcats at the event, shooting a 1-under 215 tournament that included a second round 69, his fifth round in the 60s this season. The -1 was good to tie for 12th, giving Donaldson his highest finish of his opening campaign as a Bobcat.
"Anytime you end your season in the post season you can be happy," head coach
Shane Howell said. "I'm super proud of the growth in the team this year and look forward to building on the success in 25-26 with these guys. We will miss
Jack Burke but look forward to adding a couple of new guys and continue battling for wins next year."
Ohio State won the team title at 26-under ahead of runner-up Utah State (-19) and third-place Oregon State (-7). TXST (292-286-290--868) was seventh in the 10-team field. Carsen Baez (Richmond) and Enrique Karg (Utah State) finished 54 holes tied for individual medalist honors at the time of this recap.
Senior
Jack Burke (74-69-75--218) and junior
Enzo Dakiche (75-74-69--218) both went +2 in Arizona, which included a season-low 69 round for Dakiche. The 2-over, tied for 25th place finish was also a season best for Dakiche.
Brannan Cox (70-74-81--225) also earned his highest finish of the season while competing as part of the TXST team lineup. Cox shot the low round in round one for the Bobcats and went on to finish 9-over and in 40th.
Rounding out the Texas State lineup was
Ben Loveard (78-76-73--227), who closed out action with his best 18 of the tournament at 1-over to finish tied for 44th.
The 2024-25 season was the second time the Bobcats were invited to the postseason event. In 2023 TXST won the inaugural tournament.
Postseason action continues with Siltala competing as an individual at the NCAA Division I Golf Championship May 23-28 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California. Siltala was unavailable for the NGI event due to his NCAA Regional selection. The junior finished tied for second at the Amherst Regional, sending him to California as the highest finishing individual not on an advancing team.
