Barbara Farris Inducted into LHSAA Hall of Fame

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State women's basketball assistant coach Barbara Farris has been inducted into her fourth Hall of Fame, most recently the Hall of Fame for the Louisiana High School Athletics Association. She was inducted for both her time as a basketball player and her time as a coach in the LHSAA.

"I am incredibly honored to be inducted into the LHSAA Hall of Fame as a player and coach," Farris said. "This recognition reflects not only my journey but also the support of my family, coaches, teammates and the community. Together, we have built a legacy of excellence in athletics that I am proud to be a part of."

Farris was inducted as a competitor for her time at St. Martins Episcopal School. Farris had previously been named to the St. Martin's Hall of Fame back in 2011. St. Martin's 1993 team, including Farris, was separately added to the Hall of Fame in 2015 for their 1993 championship and 36-0 undefeated record that season. Farris and her team's names are all over the record book at St. Martins after Farris was a four-year letter winner with the program.

Additionally, after her preps career, Farris stayed local to Louisiana and went on to become a four-year All-Conference USA team member during her time at Tulane University.

Farris finished her career at Tulane with 1,729 points, 939 rebounds, 105 assists, 47 blocks and 144 steals. Upon finishing her collegiate career, Farris went on to have a 10-year career in the WNBA as a professional.

Her induction to the Hall of Fame was also as a coach, largely because of the five state championships she won while coaching at John Curtis Christian School out of River Ridge, La. During her tenure, the Lady Patriots posted a 291-64 mark during her 10 seasons with the program.

The LHSAA Hall of Fame Committee is made up of 14 members that vote on the joining members. Farris was inducted into their hall of fame in their 2025 induction as one of nine members this season.

She was joined alongside Michael Boyer (contributor), O.M. 'Butch' Helveston (coach), Melissa 'Ashley' Aldredge Brooks (competitor), Br. Martin Hernandez, S.C. (contributor), Ronnie Coker (coach), Jennifer Streiffer Mascaro (competitor), Tony Lee Cutright (competitor), and Ruby Smith Qualls (coach). Farris was the lone inductee to be both a competitor and a coach this year.

Farris joined the Bobcats coaching staff this past spring ahead of the 2025-26 season after spending the past two seasons at Southern Miss.
