SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State Women's Basketball Head Coach
Chris Kielsmeier announced Friday four additions to his staff. Joining the program will be assistant coaches Latoja Schaben and Kevin Hackerott, Chief of Staff Hanna Macer and graduate assistant Evie Gotz.
"I am so excited to welcome these four incredible people to our staff," Kielsmeier said. "Each person will bring something different and invaluable to what we are doing here at Texas State. Coach Schaben and I worked together from day one in my career and has always been an invaluable mentor to me. Coach Hackerott brings a very experienced energetic voice to all that we do. They bring an immense wealth of knowledge with them from their respective longstanding and prolific careers. Bringing Hanna with me, who was a massive part of the success we had at Cleveland State, will be key in managing everything on and off the basketball floor for our program and will be instrumental to our future success. She will be involved in everything we do in our Bobcat program. Adding Evie Goetz as a graduate assistant, who finished her playing days not long ago, will be a huge resource for our entire staff and someone our players can relate to. All in all, I could not be more excited to continue to work with this group and am ecstatic to have them join our program. It's an exciting time in San Marcos and this is just the beginning!"
Schaben joins the staff as an assistant coach after spending 28 seasons as an assistant coach for the Iowa State Cyclones. Throughout her time on staff the team accumulated a 621-313 record and made 25 postseason appearances. Schaben made two Elite 8 appearances, four Sweet Sixteen appearances and was on staff for all 23 of Iowa State's NCAA tournament victories. Schaben works primarily with post players which most recently includes helping coach three-time All-American Audi Crooks to become the third-fastest Big 12 player to reach 1,000 career points.
Prior to her time in Ames, Schaben played professionally for three years in Portugal, Italy, Finland and Turkey after a collegiate career at Toledo. During her time at Toledo, Schaben was an All-American honorable mention and 1993 Mid-American Conference Player of the Year. Additionally, she is in the Toledo Athletics Hall of Game as of 2000 and the Mansfield Senior Hall of Fame as of 2003.
"I am so excited to be joining Head Coach
Chris Kielsmeier's staff at Texas State," Schaben said. "This program is truly on the rise, and I can't wait to be part of a monumental moment in this school's history as they join the Pac-12 conference. Coach Kielsmeier has found success at everywhere that he has been, and I can't wait to be a part of it as we begin this journey together. I am ready and excited to get to work down in San Marcos and be part of this amazing community. Go Bobcats!"
Hackerott joins the staff after most recently spending six seasons at UTRGV where, in 2025-26, the team had its first-ever 20-win season in program history. The team went to the second round of the WNIT, the team's first postseason appearance 2016-17.
Prior to his six seasons at UTRGV, Hackerott was the head girls' basketball coach at Goddard High School where he led the team to some of its best years in program history, including a 22-3 record and state championship appearance in 2018-19. Prior to that, Hackerott coached at Wellington High School, Cameron University and Pratt Community College.
"I am excited and honored to join Head Coach
Chris Kielsmeier and his staff at Texas State University!" Hackerott said. "The opportunity to join a winner with a proven track record at a great institution like Texas State was an easy decision! The leadership at Texas State and the move to the Pac-12 shows the commitment to success that every coach looks for in a program! Big things are coming in Bobcat Nation, and I am thrilled to begin our journey!"
Macer comes to San Marcos at the Bobcats' Chief of Staff after spending the previous four seasons with Coach Kielsmeier at Cleveland State. While there, the served as both a Special Assistant to the Head Coach and Director of Basketball Operations.
During her time with Cleveland State, the team won the 2022-23 Horizon League Tournament title, the 2023-24 Horizon League regular season championship, and made a Great 8 appearance in the 2025-26 WNIT.
"I'm thrilled to be joining the Texas State family and look forward to being part of the women's basketball program with Coach Kielsmeier," Macer said. "The athletic department and Bobcat fans make Texas State an amazing place to compete and I'm excited to be part of building something special within the women's basketball program alongside Coach K."
Evie Gotz joins the staff for her first coaching gig after finishing her playing career at LA Tech in the 2023-24 season. Goetz was at TCU from 2021 to 2023 for the first two seasons of her career before transferring to LA Tech where she competed her final season. Goetz will serve as a graduate assistant on Kielsmeier's staff.

"I'm incredibly excited and blessed to join the Texas State Women's Basketball family," Goetz said. "I'm excited to learn from Coach K and the staff and be part of this new era. Eat 'Em Up, Cats!"
