AMHERST, Virginia – After four days of play and numerous weather delays,
Sakke Siltala punched his ticket to the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship by tying for second at the NCAA Amherst Regional.
Siltala opened play at 1-over 71 on the first day to sit tied for 27th before charging up the leaderboard with a pair of 3-under 67 rounds to secure his spot as the top finishing individual not on one of the five advancing teams.
The junior opened the final round of play Wednesday after action was postponed for him Tuesday due to rain with a bogey on hole No. 1. That would be the last blemish on his scorecard that included a birdie on No. 9 and three straight from Nos. 13-15. He went on to finish even par across the final three holes to bring his 54-hole total to 5-under 205, just one stroke off his best 54-hole total this season.
"Sakke was absolutely phenomenal today in his final round," head coach
Shane Howell said. "He one putted on nine of his last 13 holes today to punch his ticket to NCAA nationals. When his best was required he rose to the moment and made it happen. I couldn't be more proud or happy for him. Just an incredible accomplishment for him and now he gets his shot to play for a national championship."
The top five finish was the fourth of the season for Siltala, who led the team in seven of 10 tournaments in 2024-25. In 33 rounds, he has posted a team-best 13 in the 60s with 21 even or under par.
Siltala will now compete as one of six individuals at the NCAA National Championship held May 23-28 at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.
